The fourth (comparatively little-known) installment in Sierra On-Line's Hoyle series is actually a remake of Hoyle: Official Book of Games - Volume 1 with VGA graphics and an additional two games: Bridge and Euchre. It offers a collection of eight popular card games: Bridge, Euchre, Old Maid, Gin Rummy, Hearts, Cribbage, Crazy Eights, and Klondike. In addition to reading the basic rules for each individual game, players can now access an interface tutorial and a glossary of game-specific terms, as well as customize a range of options. During gameplay decks and tables can be changed to your favourite style. This version has also speech. It's apparently the last volume in the series to feature animated characters from other Sierra titles such as Leisure Suit Larry, Robin Hood, Roger from Space Quest, King Graham from King's Quest, Dr. Brain and Willy Beamish. Quarky from Quarky & Quaysoo's Turbo Science, and Pepper from Pepper's Adventure's in Time. And instead of playing against the animated versions of the people that created the game, we get "old time" characters with names like Dinky, Crazy Jack, and Fairbanks. |
