Ys II Eternal | Nihom Falcom | 2000

This is a remake of the second game in the long-running Ys action RPG series. It is visually similar to Ys Eternal, with slightly more advanced and detailed graphics. The changes, however, are less noticeable than in the previous remake and mostly include slight variations in locations and dungeon design, as well as various tweaks to items, magic system, and interaction with NPCs. There are three difficulty modes (Easy, Normal, and Hard) to choose from in this version. A bright light shot up from Dahm Tower in the end of the first game, and our hero Adol Christian is awakened by a young girl who finds him lying on the ground. She introduces herself as Lilia and tells Adol he is in the land of Ys. Finally he was able to establish a connection between his world and this mysterious land. But finding the gateway to Ys is not enough: Adol must stop the evil entity that his archenemy Dark Fact served. And his foes already know where he is. This game is a direct sequel to what PC players know as Ancient Land of Ys. The gameplay utilizes an unusual action RPG combat style, where you don't press any attack button, but run into your enemies in order to cause damage. You should choose the angles and the measure of contact with the enemy carefully, otherwise you'll be dead. You can (and should) level up, perform quests for village people, gather money, and upgrade your weapons and inventory, like in any other RPG. Ys I & II Complete was released in 2001. They were both fully fan translated from Japanese to English. Later, once this was out of print, Falcom began selling the two separately again, as "Ys I Complete" and "Ys II Complete". Falcom complicated the issue by changing the "Eternal" to "Complete" on all external packaging and advertisements, but not in the actual games themselves. In one of the English patches, the internal bitmaps are edited to reflect the external change for the packages. In 2009, Ys I & II Chronicles was a Japanese PC port of a PSP version based on Ys I & II Complete. When starting a new game, the player can choose between two different game modes, which will display character portraits from the 2001 Windows release, or entirely new portraits created for this release. The soundtrack can be changed at any time during the game, between that of the PC88 release, the 2001 Windows release, or an entirely re-orchestrated soundtrack. In 2013, an English Steam release called Ys I & II Chronicles+ with adjustable high-resolution PC graphics with a smooth, consistent framerate, a greater viewing area, Steam achievements, and combat receives a full analog-enabled upgrade for gamepad users among other improvements.
