Kimchi-Man [K] Spearhead Co. Ltd. 2001

A typical platform game but with 3D cell-shaded pre-rendered graphic horizontal action, where you play as a bachelor cabbage, and select one of your vegetable friends while traveling the world in each country to fight monsters and share food-related information. The last stage of Korea has the difficulty which is quite atrocious. The character design is quite fine. It’s quite well made in most respects, from the above-average music to the high-res graphics. The game is clearly designed for children however, with cutesy characters and enemies throughout. But this is not much of a hindrance when it comes to enjoying the game. It’s quite effective in character portrayal, and makes for greater ease of animation. Thus the game moves very well, and has some pleasantly distinctive worlds to traverse. The gameplay is basically, jump, run, shoot and punch. Tapping the punch button yields a set combo designed for mindless enemy pounding. The final level transforms the game into a shooter of about average difficulty (traditional horizontal shooter, not bullet-hell style), which coupled with the between-level minigames makes for a varied and largely enjoyable playthrough.
