Alrighty, here's another problem: The ISO image appears to be corrupt. Now whether this is due to a bad dump or damage that happened to the dump itself, I cannot tell (ISO's are generally a bad idea for software preservation, but sometimes that's all we can get our hand onto). While installing, the installer will complain about maybe a couple files (Interfaces.tbv for once) not matching those from the .cab, but the installation process will go on and culminate if you continually ignore the issue.
Now installed, it appeared to function normally up to a point (though I've only got so much time for trials), save that it will always (without fail) crash while loading "Mandrill Motors", which corresponds to Tutorial Contraption number 46.
This was tested on a P4 with 32-bit Windows XP SP3, and I know I did not experience the same problem with the original CD running on the exact same rig.
Sorry if I'm sounding picky here, but if there be any chance at all that something can be done about this, it begins with a report.
Thanks again for listening.
