i dont know exactly what u mean but i had a problem too with slow
sound

in the audio setup for duke 3d just select NO soundcard for music
playback

just for the music ! that should work !!! so u cant hear any music but
weapon sounds and all that

Using ports is great but if you want to keep the normal game it's very easy with VMDSound see our FAQ for higher resolutions you may use NOLFB from Ken Silverman.

Worked for me:

1 Install VMDSound
2 Install the Launchpad for VMDSound
3 Put NOLFB.com in your Duke Directory
4 Create a Batch file with:

NOLFB.COM
DUKE3D.EXE

5 Create a VMDSound shortcut for the Batch file
6 Create a VMDSound shortcut for the Serup
7 Configure the Setup and VMDSound with the same settings
8 You may choose a higher resolution
9 Launch the game with the VMDSound shortcut for the batch file

Good Luck!
