Hour of Victory solutions (Tested with Windows 8.1)  Topic is solved

The game don't like modern systems very much due to some old drivers/software included with the original release:

To properly run the game on modern operating systems you need Physx Legacy and the latest Games for Windows Live

Physx legacy:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx-9.13 ... river.html

Games for Windows Live:
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/pc/DownloadClient

New link:
http://download.gfwl.xboxlive.com/conte ... esetup.exe
pcgw link:
https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/file ... dows-live/

Without the right physx files installed you get a General Protection Fault error, and without the Games for Windows live client nothing happens when you press enter at the menu screen.

Custom resolution with 2560x1440 as an example:
C:\Users\username\Documents\Hour of Victory\HOVGame\Config

HOVengine.ini

[WinDrv.WindowsClient]
AudioDeviceClass=ALAudio.ALAudioDevice
StartupFullscreen=True
EditorPreviewFullscreen=False
StartupResolutionX=2560
StartupResolutionY=1440
UseVSYNC=FALSE

While I already had the game working, this is damned good of you to post. However, I have something I'd like to post (because I used CCleaner and it messed it up and I had to fix it).

OpenAL 2.1.0.0
http://db.tt/dwAgUGrm

Without OpenAL properly installed, the game will simply give an error at launch.

Also, I recommend changing the FOV. The game's default FOV is around 60 or 65, which makes me VERY uncomfortable. Simply go into Documents --> Hour of Victory --> HOVGame --> Config, then open HOVInput.ini with Notepad or, what I recommend, Notepad++ [http://notepad-plus-plus.org/download/v6.7.5.html]. You're immediately looking at [Engine.PlayerInput], so scroll down to a good key, say, F8 and paste the entire following line in its place:
Bindings=(Name="F8",Command="FOV 95")
Feel free to change to FOV to whatever you desire and just press that button in-game (I think you need to do it once every mission). I'll give the game kudos that the in-game models actually acclimate to 95° really well, since they actually made complete gun models and a long arm model. The only real 'downside', if you can really even call it that, is that coming out of using iron sights will first snap back to the game's default FOV, then snap back into the FOV you set it to. It's a quick thing, but it is noticeable. With that said, it's not a big deal either, since using iron sights for anything that isn't a bolt-action rifle (either scoped or unscoped, though even unscoped rifles do well at anything other than long-range without needing to look down the sights) is completely and totally useless.

With that said, the game isn't actually very good, but it IS fun in its own way. Always pick Ross, though. There's literally no reason not to (and I'd like to take this opportunity to bitch about how annoying it is that you have to hear your character spout a line off every time you pick him, which happens every mission and every time you die. When I hit the button to select the character, just throw me into the damned game, I don't need to hear one of a few oft-repeated lines that sounds corny a billion damned times).

This guide is still valid as of 24/8/2021. Windows 11

You will need to grab the files from pcgw as of today, since MS took down the server for the live installer which grab files from a server. You may even need to reinstall gfwl together with physx legacy since the game overwrites the files.

gfwlivesetup.exe should be the one you need to run.
Youtube video will be up when youtube feels like processing my file.

I was a bit ignorant of the video jark4gaming made, I still haven't watched it in full :oops:. I may be a bit biased here, but I still think people should have been able to find this guide if they truly cared.

So the game should be playable if you like to tinker...
