Lol...palette is garbled! ;)

Try to use other characters, you'll clearly see that. You chose the less noticeable duo :D

This is how sprites should look like:

Ha ha, you're right, with others characters the problem is more noticeable.
I should have tried more in depth.
I'll see what happens in an old machine I have.

Not mentioning how the fudge can you know when you can do super moves if the charging bar on bottom is not available/not visible? It's available in advanced variable geo 2, who shares 90% of ingame content.

maybe its a console port ?
jup it is ... and it is a shitty port
Code: Select all
V.G. Custom (PC, Giga, February 19, 1999)
Another remake of Advanced V.G., this game features the same cast as Super V.G., but includes the same style of graphics and sound used in Advanced V.G. 2, along with reusing all Humiliation sequences from V.G. II: Bout of Cabalistic Goddess (though the dialogue was changed) and (non-canon) endings. Tamao Mitsurugi is a hidden character in the game and playable in versus and practice modes once unlocked.

V.G. - Variable Geo - PC9800 - Giga July 9, 1993
Advanced V.G. - Turbo CD - TGL - July 22, 1994
V.G. II - THE BOUT OF CABALISTIC GODDESS - PC9800 - Giga - November 25, 1994
Super Variable Geo - Super Famicom - TGL - July 21, 1995
Advanced V.G. - Sega Saturn - TGL - March 27, 1995
Advanced V.G. - PlayStation - TGL - March 19, 1996
Advanced V.G. 2 - PlayStation - TGL - September 23, 1998

so they created a frankenstein ... guess the only good looking version is the one from PC9800

Palette fix for Variable geo custom (by Silanda): http://www.4shared.com/zip/qDEQBoMlce/VGC-Fix.html

I'll steal a thought from Dege (Dgvoodoo programmer) and Silanda: how the f#ck this game was supposed to work correctly in the first place?!?

Any idea how to change keyboard keys in Vg Custom?

It would be cool to find proper dump of ヴァリアブル・ジオ (the dos version by Tan ton nerw) but no proper infos can be found online, I remember I read something about it being released in two versions, floppy and cdrom but not much else. And besides that, wtf is tantonnerw? I wouldn't be surprised if this is not a licensed port but something similar to street fighter 2 by yung young dug.

Only verified thing for now is that pc version shared by roioros supports redbook audio, so I suppose it was a cdrom to begin with.

Aaand we finally got the elusive cdrom of taiwanese ヴァリアブル・ジオ Dos port.
Full cdrom image

I take the opportunity to share THIS.
It's a recollection of various old VGCustom fixes previously shared in Vogons. Highly recommended!
(This is meant to be used in combo with the palette fix previously shared HERE).
