Mystery of the Missing Princess on 32bit Windows 8

Postby nuffinbutapuffin » Wed Aug 24, 2016 4:13 am

Hey! Just dug up this forum and the download (http://www.legendsworld.net/site/download.php?mirror=2458) for an ancient educational game I adored as a young child, Mystery of the Missing Princess.

Needless to say, I'm a bit lost. I've already installed a program to extract files from "b1" compression as well as decoded something somehow that I do not understand at all.

Here's what my download file looks like so far.

What do I do? I'd love to replay this game for nostalgia value but right now it looks like I won't be able to.

You need to run unecm.bat to decompress the PM.mdf.ecm file. After that you can mount the MDF/MDS image into a virtual drive.

You read the FAQ and never get lost again.

This person has already used unecm.bat to decode the encoded file.

@nuffinbutapuffin, you only need the PM.mdf and PM.mds for the game. You need to mount the CD Image (which is two parts; PM.mdf/PM.mds) in a virtual drive application such as Virtual CloneDrive which is a free download.

Code: Select all
https://www.redfox.bz/en/virtual-clonedrive.html

Once you've installed the program and selected the PM.mds to mount the CD Image, you can then navigate to the virtual CD drive and attempt to install the game. I'm not entirely sure that a game made for Windows 95 will work right off the bat in Windows 8. If luck is with you then it will function. If not then you may have to delve into the world of virtualization. If that happens to be the case, look here: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=13565
