Help with burning files to disk, please? ^ ^

Postby LunarPanda » Sat Sep 17, 2016 11:28 pm

Hello! :D
So, I recently found an old game I used to play (a PC disk game) and downloaded it off of Adventure Legends, and the file was an extractable .B1 file, which I extracted, but then got a few other files which I'm not sure what to do with. I got a .CCD, .IMG, .SUB, and .CUE file and I'm not sure what to do with them. :huh:
I've tried fudging around with them in ImgBurn and DAEMON Tools Lite but I just... can't... get it to work. :x

Maybe someone can help me out? Thanks! :oops:
P.S The game I downloaded was Star Stable 2... not sure if that's relevant... #noob

CloneCD burns those. Daemon Tools Lite will mount the image. Use the .CCD or the .CUE to mount the image to a virtual drive. After you've mounted the image, navigate to the virtual drive and install it.

You should just be able to install it and play it via the mounting procedure. No need to burn it to disc unless you really want to.

Thank you very much for replying! :D
I think I got the hang of the whole mounting process but now I have another problem.
When I navigate to the virtual drive, I get this in the main directory:

And this inside the DirectX folder:

I tried clicking on all the application files and they don't do anything. They just tell me the file can't be launched.
Not sure what to do. :?
P.S I looked inside the "Autorun" file and all there was-was literally the numer "1". That's it. Nothing else. :huh:

This one works in 99,99 out of 100 cases:

You may have to fiddle with EXE's compatibility settings though, depending on what operating system you're using.
Right click on setup.exe, go to Compatibility tab and try Windows XP compatibility (since EXE is from 2005).

Another possible error may be mounting the image in Daemon Tools (Lite) on the drive that emulates the interface that doesn't handle well with the mounted image. Remedies: always mount on SCSI drives; except if wanting to actually emulate the copy-protection scheme that came with the title, you need a clone image and Daemon Tools Pro (or Advanced or Ultra or any paid edition of DT), which emulates IDE and (possibly) other interfaces. That should help you knowing now and in the future, good luck Panda (I suppose you don't go berserk over the cheese, good :D )...

@zobraks
I did as you said and tried troubleshooting compatibility with Windows XP and when I clicked on the "setup" file it just said it was corrupted. ._.

@annoyment
I'm actually using PowerISO to mount the image. I stopped using DAEMON Tools since I found PowerISO to be better. x3

All in all, thanks to all you guys for helping me out! But, in the end, it's just something wrong with the file itself. But something good did come of this! I learned how to mount and play games that aren't corrupted! :lol:
Thanks again, and sorry for wasting anyone's time. :oops:

The game installs fine here by using setup.exe, so at least the file is not corrupt. DAEMON Tools & Windows 8.1 64-bit.

No really, it seems that PowerISO is an awful image mounter, DXSETUP should have its own icon no matter what, abandon PowerISO for that purpose and use DT Lite (any version before 10, that one is atrocious and errors itself on anything that isn't Windows 10), it gets the job done right mate, and for free...

Chances could be that you didn't entirely extract the image, either because a part was missing during extraction or because one of the archives was corrupted and subsequently gave a broken image. Check the archives' integrity and/or try extracting them again. Make sure the extraction isn't stopped halfway and look for errors.

@annoyment
I took your advice and started using DAEMON Tools again, this time downloading a previous version. I think my bad first impression came from downloading the latest version. :oops:
I mounted the .CUE file and everything went fine. This time, it didn't tell me the "setup" file was corrupted, but that god-forsaken bar came up saying "This app can't run on your PC." I tried to look up solutions to that problem, but I couldn't find anything useful. AND I also tried with the troubleshoot compatibility settings running it under every version of Windows I could. Still nothing.

I feel like I'm cursed or something. :x

Damn, it's peculiar as crap, so uh, DTLite, mount the game on the SCSI drive (make sure the interface is installed properly) using the CCD file (dunno why are CUEs still included with CloneCD images), start DXSETUP first and if it runs start SETUP (it's InstallShield), and if it provides a setup error, re-download (every file separately, to avoid any errors) and extract with latest WinRAR in case of RAR5 (as in better safe than sorry), since Shattered verified its integrity. It should work unless if the setup isn't 16-bit (it certainly ain't DOS), otherwise I'm out of clues :huh:

@annoyment: You can check a box when using CloneCD to clone a CD to output a .CUE file as well. That's how it happens.

The game just works for me and I did nothing special to it. I used Windows 7 x64 to test it.

I didn't do anything special, I just mounted the image and ran the setup. It's a CloneCD image so I used the .ccd file to mount it. The setup isn't 16-bit otherwise it wouldn't have worked here. I did use JDownloader to download the files, so no B1 here.

You could try to boot into Windows safe mode and then install the game:

Code: Select all

Perhaps you should copy all the files to a directory on your HDD first (not sure if DAEMON Tools works in safe mode).
