Can't get Stellar Mercenaries to work.

Postby gray4420 » Sat Jan 28, 2017 12:17 am

shooter/game/9579

Downloaded with windows 10, burned to disk with poweriso, installed on a computer with windows xp. Perfect audio, warbled visual on the main game. The 3 bonus games are playable with minor graphical errors. Tried every compatibility, 256, etc. Same result. (or won't load at all) Uninstalled/reinstalled with the setup.exe on every compatiibility, 256, same result. Any suggestions? Am I doing something wrong?

At Old-Games.ru it says -

Install the game on NT-based, you can run the installer in compatibility mode for Windows 95. Already in the configurations of the 2000s can be observed serious graphical glitches. We recommend to run the game in this version DXWnd (you can download it in the "Files" section of the site - http://www.old-games.ru/utils/soft/), putting a checkmark in the top three items, and selecting System Memory mode (if you do the latter, then the game will be very very slow).

If I remember I used dgvoodoo (or DXWnd perhaps?) to fix the color problem.

Some tinkering got it going!

To be specific, for anyone else that gets hung up: Download the (og edition) of DXWnd.

Link the actual stellar.exe file in the stellar folder.

Check the top 3 options in the "Video" sub box.

i.e.
-Hook Direct Draw
-Colour Convert
-Use GDI (low compatibility)

Set "Surfaces Location" to System Memory...and click OK.

Make sure the full filepath appears in the window, if it doesn't, adjust it. The main game runs! (albeit in German, only..lol)

For the three sub games follow the same directions above only link to the igames_VOL4_launcher.exe. The bonus games are now playable with reduced graphical errors. (Othello still looks weird, though.)

Worked for me...
