Planet Zoo Low Resolution Animal Textures

Postby Ali Akbar » Sun Mar 06, 2022 4:18 pm

I recently bought Planet Zoo Ultimate Edition on Steam, disabled fullscreen optimizations, launched it, set the resolution to 1280x720p, set all graphics settings at max and set shadows to the lowest, started a sandbox zoo, and when I got my first animal (a lion), it's textures were low resolution, tried it with other animals too, same thing, buildings also have low resolution textures, while other things in the zoo such as the ground and trees etc have high resolution textures. Changing graphics settings have no effect on this issue. Although you guys probably know my laptop specs already, here they are anyways:

Dell Inspiron 15 5510

The problem here lies with Intel Xe build in GPU that only takes 1gig of ram ... Amd Ryzen Vega is more flexible for gaming ... how well it runs should be obvious since Steam Deck uses it (even XBox s\x variants )...
did you tried installing Intel XTU
https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en ... l-xtu.html
and overclocking your inbuild GPU a bit ... ?

A clear show off how Vega 8 works could be seen ... when i played on it Serious Sam 4 ... and RECORDED GAMEPLAY AT THE SAME TIME !!!
www.amd.com/en/products/apu/amd-ryzen-5-3500u
www.youtube.com/watch?v=9q7zJbMgRaw

... and now we are at Ryzen 5 gen ... soon gen 6 with gen 7 will hit that can do RayTracing on a inbuild GPU ...

That shouldn't be a problem, I played a lot of demanding games on my old Intel HD Graphics (Arrandale) with texture and post processing quality set to the highest possible, and the textures on that loaded fine, so the Iris Xe shouldn't have a problem like this, since it is 3499% faster than arrandale (according to gpu.userbenchmark.com), the textures should load no matter what, I don't care about low fps or stuttering (after years of playing games on the arrandale I am used to low fps and performance).
[quote="hfric"did you tried installing Intel XTU

This is the log file:

Vega 8 is similar in performance to the Iris Xe.

Also, I encountered a VERY SIMILAR issue in Halo 2: Anniversary in the remastered graphics. The high resolution textures wouldn't load, instead it would load low res ones, and I even submitted a ticket on Halo Waypoint, and the agent said that they will work on it, it is still an open issue, and no updates to the game since Nov, 2021. Also, a lot of other people with much more powerful graphics card have this issue because their VRAM is 1 GB, it is pathetic.

Re: Planet Zoo Low Resolution Animal Textures

Postby hfric » Sat Apr 02, 2022 5:26 pm

The thing is till 2017 every game Max needed a Gpu that had 2 Gigs of vram ... and 4 gigs on your PC ... from 2018 suddenly all games where designed (more like quick ported over) with console standards and you had to have min 6 gig on a gpu and min 8 gigs of ram to run them ... on LOW ... 8 gig on a gpu with 16\32 gig of ram to run them on High ... you can say games scaled to consoles standards and PC suffered ...

my point is, every game till 2017 on Inbuild GPU of today can be run on High with those 1gig\2gigs ... till you hit 2018 when games are no longer designed for Gpus with 2 gigs of ram ... they can run, but will hick up when they will hit the ram wall ... from 2018 till 2020-ish (4year-ish), games on in build gpu sucked , with many trickery program routes for increasing GPu memory pool in Windows ... to fake the 6 gigs ... Planet Zoo falls into this 4 year gap when Devs did not cared for Laptop gaming (not to mention they recommend 2gig on GPu to play on low ) since its a 2019 game with just updates , and i don't see they did EA hardcore engine swaps like EA did with Sims4 that suddenly did not worked on older CPus after a update ... to push more effects , larger maps

From 2020 ... corporations started to put effort into memory management programs , seeing that many play games on laptops ... Handhelds (GPD mini pc) ... Amd ecosystem now can use all your ram with "direct access memory" ... intel well is stuck , but since they payed off M$ to sabotage Amd new Cpu line in Win11 (they have to wait till M$ will give them a hand) ... M$ now pushes theirs Console Standards to PC ... from drivers that can parallel read a NVME SSD , PR-ed as "direct storage" to better memory pooling for inbuilds (Task manager now can see your GPu) ... and corporations push the Stream Agenda ... disown you from having the game files ... not to mention shortage of Gpu silicon so they now extra push for optimizing inbuilds... aka Memory pool in WIn10/Win11 is now made for In-builds https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en ... phics.html ... in other words, Intel inbuild are now faster on new OS like Win11 ... but normal gpus now suffer ...

BUT ... there is also this thing, that in WIn10 20h1 Legacy Applications where now missing ... since every time they update the OS , they change the core of it ... the way the OS works , sometimes it also affects the way how your game works ... like they disabled Direct Play https://sguru.org/direct-play-for-windows-games/ ... or even disabled many used applications http://www.minitool.com/news/optional-f ... ws-10.html

Since Intel changed theirs installer to work only on new OS as a Tile App tied to the Start Menu and windows store https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/intel ... verviewtab , you have to trick the install program to install itself and get the normal BETTER VERSION

Well, I installed it following the steps in the article above, but when I launched it it said that the drivers weren't installed, googled it and it means that it isn't supported on my processor :(

Wow , those on intel Cpus of today are screwed , that just want to game on theirs inbuilds ... did you tried at lest the Tile App from Windows Store that controls Intel XE ? Since M$ contrary to AMD Vega , uses OS integration (https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en ... phics.html + https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en ... s-software this link was posted for a reason)... The Power Menu and Display Menu control your XE performance ...

and here my help will end, since my OS is so modded , its no longer Win10 or Win 11 no more ... and only people that use the inbuild OS options will now help you ...

By the Tile App you mean the Intel Graphics Command Center? If so, then I have it (latest version) and it only controls games' graphics settings like Anti-Aliasing, Anisotropic Filtering, VSync, Texture Filtering, Game Sharpening, Adaptive Tessellation, Retro Scaling and Smart VSync. There aren't any options that control the Iris Xe.
