Ripped Audio Qualities?

Postby ryubond007 » Sat Oct 15, 2005 6:30 pm

Ok i posted this kinda topic before for a particular game but now as my question is changed a little i wanna ask it again..

These Music/Speech audio addons which are there at 3dsl site ... do they lower the quality of these sounds before uploading them or make any kind of change which can effect the Sound Setup of variations and channels in a game??

Oh boy.. loki1985 told you in your other thread that the audio files are being compressed. Why? To make them MUCH smaller!

So I guess 90% of the addons are compressed lossy, though you will not hear any difference in almost any case.

Wondering why you ask a question like this.. if you want *original* sounds go buy the original game. :?

wouldn't have made sense anyway, since they are allready in lossy compressed format.

Why not just ogg up the speech only? If you compress gunfire sounds for example, you'll have wierd silent gaps in te beginning making the gun sound very wonky and out of sync.

At least, that's what it is with the sof2 rip.

not compressing such tiny sounds is common practice. but if you do it the right way, even those CAN be compressed without such bad sideeffects.

I mean, if I make a sounds addon for a rip, I won't modify the sounds. If the musics are in .wav, I'll put original .wav in my addon.
Or I converted the musics in mp3 or ogg, and the musics are in the rip, and there's no music addon.

I just explain how I proceed ; not like you, apparently (but I'm not a ripper).

"sounds" is too general.....
music, ambients and speech should always be compressed if they are not allready, but things like effects can be left the way they are.
not compressing e.g. speech is something no-one can afford in most cases.
