Soul Reaver incompatible with XP

Postby Nightweaver » Tue Dec 06, 2005 5:30 am

Every time I try to run Soul Reaver on XP, it gives me an obscure error message saying that it crashed due to "kernel32.dll".

I've tried compatiblity settings, I've tried patches (One of the most widespread ones, from http://www.thelostworlds.net/SR1-XP.HTML, seems to do the trick for everyone else, but considering I got it off of Adv. Legends, a cd-crack is needed to make it work. :x ), I've tried almost everything, and I've run out of ideas.

I hope there's a solution to this. If you can find one, or provide a cracked version of the XP patch, that would be awesome.

here's a patch. (just copy the files to your soul reaver dir and then mount the mini.iso in Daemon Tools)
I'm also prepping a windows xp compatible movie addon.

Look at you, Hacker. A pathetic creature of meat and bone.
Panting and sweating as you run through my corridors.
How can you challenge a perfect, immortal machine?

Wow, thanks! I got Soul Reaver from Ebay some months ago and already gave up because it didn´t even work with that first XP patch... but I got it finally running with the help of your patch!

if you have the original cd, you don't have to load the mini.iso (you can use your original cd and watch the movies)

I still get an error when I try to start Soulreaver with the original CD. The only way it works is with your patch. I used the CD to install the game, but can´t get it to run without your patch.

The cutscenes are a total mess, you see scenes (the in-game rendered ones) but the audio is apparently mixed together in a completely wrong way.

But anyways, I´m happy I can play the game finally... the main point I got interested in Soul Reaver is the non-linear leveldesign.

EDIT: just discovered that the cutscene audio was messed up because I used a bloodpatch (it simply replaces the german loacals.pc with the original one)... without the bloodpatch it works fine.
