Aliens vs. Predator 2 Primal Hunt

Postby Heretic » Thu Jan 05, 2006 1:04 pm

I found some threads for AvP2-PH but none helped me with my problem. I downloaded an unrared/unpacked all stuff like the instruction says (Avp2 & MP; great work @dead-meat!! :up: ) but after all I can only start the main menu of Primal Hunt. After pressing on "PLAY" I get the message: "ERROR - unable to find the AVP2X.rez file. Please make shure that Aliens versus Predator 2: Prial Hunt is installed properly and that your Aliens versus Predator 2: Prial Hunt disc is in the CD drive." That AVP2X.rez file is in the Primal Hunt directory so I wonder why I get this error...? AvP2 works fine also with the music addon (again great work @dead-meat - keep up the good work! :) ). While unpacking the Primal Hunt files I got this error Butcher postet some months ago (klick) so I unpacked the files on a Win98SE-machine with no problems and transfered them back to my XP-machine. Does that have to do with my problem...? Would be great if someone could help me! :)

I guess the Primal Hunt addon won't work with the AVP2 rip. Don't know for sure though.

Okay - maybe we can test around a bit...?
Do thes have to be in the same directory?

according to the error message it could well be a wrongly configured registry. try running the regfix if present or manually edit the registry settings.....

this could help eventually.

It worked fine with the Dead- Meat rip on my xp machine - just make sure that you install primal hunt to a completely separate directory. Don't try and run it with the same exe as avp2 - the game was always meant to have 2 separate installs. :)

For AvP2:PH have been made some entries, all the directories in this entries are correct. Here is the content of the setup.reg with all tose entries I copied during the installation:
Code: Select all
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Sierra OnLine\Setup\AVP2X]
"Directory"="D:\\SPIELE\\PH"
"Full Name"="Aliens versus Predator 2: Primal Hunt"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Sierra On-Line\Aliens versus Predator 2: Primal Hunt\1.0]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Third Law Interactive\Aliens versus Predator 2: Primal Hunt\1.0]
"Disable Hardware Cursor"=dword:00000000
"Disable Joysticks"=dword:00000000
"Disable Movies"=dword:00000000
"Disable Music"=dword:00000000
"Disable Sound"=dword:00000000
"Disable Triple Buffering"=dword:00000000
"InstallDir"="D:\\SPIELE\\PH"
"Language"="English"
"Num Launcher Runs"=dword:00000000
"PatchRez"="-rez avp2p.rez -rez avp2p1.rez -rez avp2x.rez"

I'm not very good with registries - would be great, if you can tell me if this is all correct... :)

//edit:
@jjim: I have definitiv installed it to a seperate directory - was just thinking what might be if both installations are in the tsame directory... :oops:

just check whether your files are in "D:\SPIELE\PH", if they are not correct the intries in regedit.

if this is correct already, the problem is somewhere else....

Just as I said - all the directory entries are correct...
Don't know, what it could be...Maybe there has to be another reg-entry?

Check the AVP2 reg entries then. Might be the addon can't find something in there..

Okay - seems like I found it... AvP2 checks only the existance of a regentry for AvP2 while PH checks the content of at least the "installdir"-entry for AvP2. If this entry is wrong AvP2 will work but not PH. The earlier postet error is apearing which is very interesting cause the mentioned file is not in the AvP2 directory but in the PH directory.
After all I can confirm that both rips are working together fine if the regentries are correct :P . I guess my entries went wrong while testing around with the 4 regfiles for both rips ("RegImp.ini" and "RegSetup.exe" for AvP2 and "SETUP.REG" and "Tecsetup.exe" for PH). :x
Anyway - thanks a very lot for your help!! :up: Keep it up - I think I'll ask for some more help here... :lol:
