sketchy unpack.exe

Postby brutedawg » Wed Sep 20, 2006 5:57 am

I had acquired avp2 a couple years ago from 3DLS, but my copy came with '3dls-avp2_fix.zip' which included a second unpack.exe with an 'install.txt' file telling you to basically copy this over the old 'unpack.exe' for whatever reason. im still unsure if this was officially part of the 3dls release. i have deleted the old unpack.exe for sure along with the release files :?

unfortunately, this "new" unpack.exe turned up positive for a Trojan.Blakhal.D, which led me to believe it was added after the 3dls-avp2 release.

Is there a way to get the original unpack.exe? or how to go about getting avp2 unpacked without having to go through this new unpack.exe?

i'd really appreciate any help.

Don't worry, those are false AV notifications...just due to the self-made exes.

I tried the file with http://anonym.to/?http://old.antivir.ru/english/www_av/ , http://anonym.to/?http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus and NOD32, only the online AntiVir check brings it up as a positive.
Could be because the file is compressed with an exe compressor, causes more false positives I believe.

Hahaha.. false alarm again. This fix is 100% official and there's really nothing to worry about. Sure it was released after 3dsl-avp2, how could the fix be released before? hehehe ..

Hope this still helps.

I just found this website: http://www.virustotal.com
It scans a file you upload with multiple different virus engines.
So thought I'd try this unpack.exe on it, 9/27 virus engines say it's a virus ;\
