Roleplay Legends

Postby Scaryfun » Fri Mar 15, 2013 9:26 am

We are planning on opening another section soon to our Legends World site for Roleplay Legends. :D
Delacroix will be the main updater for this section and we hope you will all help by uploading rpg games and suggest titles to be added.
We still don't have a header pic for the site's menu for this section though, and are looking for someone to volunteer to make one. We have some graphics collected that can be used if you choose to do something similar to our current menus for Adventure and 3D Shooter Legends -
http://www.4shared.com/folder/ywGtSCsa/ROLEPLAY.html

Or you can choose any suitable graphics from other classic rpg's. This one was done for Strategy Legends and would have used a drop down menu which is simpler to do - http://www.4shared.com/folder/h_0PLbOo/STRATEGY.html

If you can help out, please post here or pm me directly. :thanks:

I'm totally against diving kingdom into small pieces. If he wants to manage role-playing games, let him mantain and update AL. All you need to do is sort adventure related stuff into RPG/Platform/Arcades/... sections, like already have been done with Adventures/Kids/Adult/...

It would be better to see Strategy Legends.

I'm not too bad with GIMP, I may try something at this. What color scheme/theme would be the best for the banner ? 3DSL use a grey metal texture (bullet, weapon), and AL a green cloud texture (dream, exploration, I guess...). I was thinking about a soil or sand texture, because roleplay makes me thinks of travel, Earth, etc. or maybe it's too "strategy-ish" ? I though about a bricks wall texture (for dungeons) but it might look too much like the 3DSL theme.
Well, I'm trying with a not too aggressive shade of red, we'll see what it looks like. We can always edit the color after that

I'm fifty-fifty between Delacroix and Giga. A RPLegend site would be a good occasion to focus on MMORPGs or Pokémon-like games, for example. From my point of view there are at least two types of RPG: those which focus on a story to live till the end of the game, and the "raw" RPG, whom the gameplay depends of the character stats/abilities more than on the player's choice.
But still, it would be harder to make a decision on what games to put on RPL and what to put on AL. Or maybe you just plan to move all the adventure-related entries ?
Anyway I don't mind about uploading for Strategy/Roleplay/whatever site

EDIT: Something quick, I have to admit.

The reason for seperating RPGs is that it is a major genre of games and moving the ones we currently have in adventures there would be good as Adventure Legends is already big and getting bigger.
The strategy graphic was done as a favor by a non-expert. I like Molitor's try... with some tinkering it could be really good. In addition to hfric's suggestions, maybe move the title higher on the graphic so it isn't over most of the character's heads.
I thought about a red type background also but maybe the pages can just be white with a red motif in the entry boxes and the header pic.

background now feels ok...
except those dragons you added have a white outline, add inner shadow in black color to fix the white
remove the font tilt
and when your adding a space in them and there are more words just make each of those two words a separate OBJECT [turn it from Font into a object]
the make this object outline in faint yellow to show more of the logo text and make the small L and BIG L in legends

Stop wasting the time, human and other resources. What for? Who will make weekly updates and uploads? Turn on the brain. Separate RPGs from adventure related stuff. Make Delaroix responsible for that part (teamwork) or let him start an individual project. Opening Strategy Legends branch is a good idea. We will cover the entire spectrum of games in that case. Worthy effort. Dividing AL into AL/RPL is a rash and absolutely useless action.

EDIT: AL design is ugly. Yes, ugly as for 2013 year. I think, it's better direct the efforts towards enhancement and improvement of the already existing site, if you don't know what to do. Or you think everything is perfectly ideal and congenial at the moment?

Re: Roleplay Legends

If votes are accepted, I'm against Roleplay Legends, Strategy Legends, Simulation Legends, etc. We're already turning into request-only resource, with little discussions and online activity. By adding new genres we'll just become a hit'n'run source of various titles for people who had difficulties finding them elsewhere. This will put more stress on loyal and prolific uploaders.

The amount of new adventures and shooters is growing every minute, as well as their size. I have an impression that staff is kept busy enough with updates and re-uploads.

Instead, I would love LW to fully take shape of a resource dedicated to homage and preservation of AL and 3DSL, including those not published on PC platform, but fully playable on emulator. There are great examples of action-adventures that this site misses, while they truly belong here.

To sum it up, adding more platforms is more worthwhile and feasible than adding more genres. This initiative might also help to introduce people from other gaming realms to Legends World.
My gratitude goes to all contributors.

While I thought about adding other platforms besides PC in the past, our focus has always been on PC titles.
Although now, through the great work of our uploaders, we have caught up in making available downloads of most entries on 3DSL and Adventure Legends and will surely run out this year of stuff to upload. 3DSL will definitely reach its pc documentation goal this year so adding non-PC titles is definitely an option after.
The plan for Legends World was always to have major game genres as separate sections. The continents on the "world" graphic would be added to.
We do have rpg entries and uploads on Adventure Legends that can be moved over to Roleplay Legends but there are many more smaller titles to be documented as well as MMORPGs which have overtaken the genre in recent years. When we find someone with the time and interest to contribute to the site then we should take advantage of that to grow the site. The number of rpg titles will be smaller than 3DSL (which encompasses also 3D simulation shooters), so it is not a huge drain on uploaders though maintaining the current uploads is already a task in itself.
Regardless, for things to be added to the site, we need volunteers to do that. Personally, I already spent way more years on this than I expected to and want to concentrate on some other things I've wanted to do in the future.

I'll maintain Roleplay Legends if it appears.

The doubtless advantage of the site's premiere is that many pure RPGs currently stashed in Adventure Legends' Related sections just because we wanted to share'em will find their proper place there.

Open an RPG Legends page and moving RPGs and Strats there would make Adventure Legends much more managable. The entry count on AL is HUGE compared to 3DSL even with the addition of fighter/flight sims. I've always felt what's considered 'Adventure' has been really broad. Like if 3DSL had been called 'Action' Legends instead.

Honestly, I never thought there was sufficient reason for separation. Backgrounds could've been alternating and genre tags kept internal, if they were needed at all.

I know the current structure is due to historical development but we are not obliged to stick that way. Many games aren't pure and can't be squeezed into a genre. What deters us from having single search?
