Legality

Postby Melissa178123 » Fri Oct 04, 2019 10:01 pm

Are any of the games on AL considered legal to download? They're not in torrents and mostly on 4shared and MEGA (That was blocked in Brazil) but i've never seen accusations on ISO images. What to do? How do you get recent games without worrying about copyright? Is downloading ISOs safer than torrents?

From my perspective, all the games on the site are demos for us to test and play, and if we like the games then we buy them to support the developers.

Downloading an ISO of a commercial game through a cyberlocker is not more or less illegal than doing so through torrent. Some games here are still sold and their ISO demos should really be taken as "demos", others are published by now-defunct companies and can safely be considered abandonware.
Games torrents being monitored is a rare occurrence, but if you are really concerned about copyright claims, you should encrypt your traffic with a VPN or get your games through other means (direct download, newsgroups, private DC hubs, even Telegram channels for games exist). Ultimately, it all depends on your country's copyright laws.

I'm a 14 year old girl in Brazil who can't afford to buy random US games. I download isos from here and when I grow up, I'll buy the games themselves.

I use 4shared and MEGA more than torrents.

What happens if I keep the demos? Sometimes I download straight on a virtual machine. Please contact any Brazilian member here to see if they haven't gotten caught.

Calm down girl, calm down... almost every game you download here has been tried. They won't give you any problem. If you have a specific issues about these games, use "Broken downloads" and "Game Support" sections.

Although all necessary explanations are made and still you extend the subject, right?

... read the rules then download the games if you want, that's all. Be illegal :)

If you want legal games for sure then buy through Steam or GOG. You were given your answer.

When I grow up and get a decent job, I'll buy the games I download.

Things like Sam & Max and Humongous Entertainment games will be bought through Steam while stuff like The Learning Company or Creative Wonders games will be bought through Amazon or eBay.

Side note, I also downloaded stuff like The Sims 4 (Which came out 5 years ago and is still updated) with no legal trouble whatsoever.

Also, here in Brazil it's common to see some dude selling PS2 games copied on cheap DVD-Rs.

My brother downloaded cracked versions of Minecraft and a recording software. Heck, he has a pirated copy of Windows 10 and Office.

The copy of Windows 7 on my PC can't install updates and if you do, they will brick the whole thing. That's not supposed to happen normally but it does here because it's pirated.

Even my sister used pirated software at one point. On my mom's laptop, there is a folder on the desktop called "fix bug", which I assume is to fix the crack.

My PS2 had a modchip!

I looked at my dad's email and absolutely NO warnings!

It seems like Brazilian ISPs don't give a sh*t.
