EFF Victory; You can hack your old games legally now*

Postby Steve » Tue Oct 27, 2015 9:13 pm

SUMMARY

In the event that others are not aware of this, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) has been modified. People who own older video games that no longer function on modern computers because of antiquated copy protection can now legally hack them to make them work. Let the celebration commence.

seeing that 97% of games now do not work in Windows 10 all thanks to new memory manager that does not like old DRM (TAGES, SAFEDISK , VOBLOCK , STARFORCE , SECUROM) ... sooner or later a law like this will happen

the 3 % are the new Securom aka Denuvo and Steam Drm api

I guess people have not waited for this new law to hack them.
But this is nice it's actually legal now !

I already did it years ago with ROTT.
Remember that old runtime bug that was crashing on a fast CPU, aka the RTE200 bug ?
http://www.pcmicro.com/elebbs/faq/rte200.html
I used those instructions to fix the installer of ROTT, as it was written in TP.

"CPU that is faster then 200 Mhz" ... it brings us back around 1997-2000

Great news! But I guess it is limited only with U.S., or...?

Since the decision hinges on the Library of Congress having made that concession it follows that it only concerns the United States.
