Some help

Postby Hellsgate » Fri Feb 03, 2006 8:07 am

o.k - all systems back up and I had ram tested and ram is 100% fine but here is my problem.

I got Asus A7V266-E motherboard - I bought 2 x corsair 512 266 mem sticks - now if I put a single 512 stick in slot 1 it tests fine and boots system - but if I put both 512 sticks in (configs of slot 1/2 or 1/3) I get major errors but either stick works fine and tests o.k in slot one. I can have a 512/256/256 config making 1gb and everything is fine (making 3 ram slots the A7V266 has) - could it be possible that the A7V266 MB does not like just 2 512 sticks in but would require 3 512 sticks (as I also getting a third stick next week)

any help would be great :?

or check if your ram is compatibie with your motherboard , or check your bios settings ,

anyway how much ram can your board control , or try the manual ,
that are my sugestions ...

if two dont work three certainly dont.

have you tried 1 512mb test in each slot? their might be something wrong with the other 2 slots from trying to put in ram on a previous occasion, make sure you've cleaned you're bored with compressed air aswell :)

The mobo takes 64mb to 1gb chips max 3gb - I've had 2 x 256mb in mobo for over 2 years with no problems - everything in bios auto detects chips and I don't really see or read anything in manual to tell me something should be done different.

The 2 512mb sticks were bought 2 weeks apart - so I had 1 x 512mb and 2 x 256mb chips on mobo for 2 weeks with no problems what so ever - only when I put the second 512mb chip in did I get problems.

but here is the weired thing with the second chip - doing the ram test using
memtest 86+ V1.65 having the 1st 512 I bought in slot 1 and second chip in slot 2 I get over 22,000 errors reported in 1023mb area - now if I reverse the order of the chips -- put 2nd chip in 1st slot etc etc I get major errors in the 234mb area - I'm no techy but does that suggest a bug in the 2nd chip :?
