What a huge list ! You're co-cdnp right ?
I'll take care of those links.

EDIT: Weird thing about Alice in Wonderland. If you click on the link you get an error, but if you copy/paste it the page loads OK.

EDIT2: Alright, I fixed all the links except the a-for-adventure.com ones. I suggest we add a note somewhere about these links: they DO work, but only if they are copy/pasted.

Yeah, for some reason A For Adventure blocks direct links to review pages. You have to go through main url then click reviews and find the one you're looking for. :P

"New Game" - UnReal World (1992-1994) - Adventure-Related

Postby Steve » Fri Feb 22, 2013 9:07 pm

I didn't see this in Adventure Legends - If it is there, then, my apologies. However, I only noticed this game today because it has apparently gone "Freeware" (technically, "donationware"):

GAME : UnReal World
GENRE : Adventure-related
YEAR : 1992 or 1994... It depends on your perspective

ABOUT: This appears to be a rogue-like in a fairly unique setting for the genre - The Iron Age. The game is apparently renown for it's low amount of fantasy and high amount of complexity. Graphics appear to be fairly simple.

New Game - Eleusis (2013) - Adventure

Postby Steve » Sat Feb 23, 2013 5:57 pm

I haven't seen this on either Adventure Legends or 3D Shooter Legends. My apologies if someone spotted it first.

TITLE: Eleusis
DEVELOPER: Nocturnal Works
YEAR: 2013
GENRE: 1st-person Adventure

Their description, not mine: "Eleusis is a 3d first-person adventure game for Windows developed by Nocturnal Works using the technology of the unreal engine. It takes place in a seemingly abandoned village in Greece where the player character, while trying to seek refuge, finds himself in the center of a whirlwind of mysterious events. As the plot unfolds he finds clues that indicate that the village is a nest of a cult which plans to revive a dark force through an ancient ritual and harness its power. The player character faces the challenge of unlocking the forgotten knowledge of the ancient mysteries in order to stop the cult from accomplishing their goal.

It is an exploration based adventure game where the player is called to solve the mystery by finding clues and reading texts based on actual history, mythology and technology of ancient Greece."

Postby Scaryfun » Sat Feb 23, 2013 11:11 pm

Thanks, I have a soft spot for Unreal engine games. :)
The Unreal World rpg, to me, wouldn't appeal to adventure gamers. I used to add only 3D rpgs with TPS or FPS view initially as you could explore 3D worlds in addition to the combat. But, some dungeon crawlers and traditional top-down rpgs have been added since.

Here is a Youtube playthrough of the demo for the game "Super Detectives / Huippuetsivät [Fi]" (2001 ADV KIDS). The game is in a foreign language but the player attempts to provide a verbal English translation.

Here is the website for "Arx Libertatis," an effort to both port the game "Arx Fatalis" (whose engine went open source some time ago) to other operating systems while improving and modernizing the game.

Horror-Themed FPS Games (Wolf3d-style)

Postby Steve » Mon Mar 18, 2013 12:16 am

Here are some freeware horror-themed FPS games at the Wolf3D technical level. Indications from other websites suggest that these games are fairly recent and made with some version of Game Maker.

NOTE: On the webpage listed below there are several non-FPS games as well. The FPS games appear to be the first listed but, more specifically: Grim Mansion, Zombie Alley, Book of Chaos, Vault of the Wretched, Grave Island & House of Phantoms.

Source Code for Jedi Outcast & Jedi Academy Released

Postby Steve » Fri Apr 05, 2013 12:24 am

UPDATE (June 27, 2013): Raven software pulled the source code a few days later because of some proprietary code that was still in the source code. The original links no longer worked; The links were changed to reflect new links that work (it is not known if these are the source code with or without the proprietary code in them).

I am sure others have heard of it - If not, here it is: Raven Software, the developers for the first-person (third-person if you count lightsabers?) "Star Wars: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast" and the spinoff for that game, "Jedi Academy," has released the source code for those two games. There is little doubt that fan patches and enhancements (Like as "Darkplaces" is for "Quake 1") will emerge.

Here are the links:

SubCulture (1997 Adv-Related) - Not Included On Site?

Postby Steve » Sat Apr 13, 2013 3:19 pm

I recently picked up a copy of Sub Culture (nothing special, just a jewel case) and, out of curiosity, looked to see what the game's entry was like on this site. Despite looking in both the 1997 & 1998 entries for both the Adventure & 3D Shooter Legends (and even the search functions), I couldn't find it.

At any rate, I found a website that is still offering a little bit of unofficial support for this game (In both French & English, as Sub Culture apparently had a French-centric development history) if anyone is still interested in playing the game after all of these years:

http://www.ccalonnec.fr/?q=node/5

And just in case some people aren't as aware as the title in general, here's the Mobygames link with more info:

https://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/sub-culture

If this game is somewhere on these sites and I didn't find it, my apologies. Otherwise, enjoy.

I was thinking of adding it to 3D Shooter Legends before but shooting is not major part of gameplay. I guess it could go in Adventure-Related for the exploration of underwater world.

Unvanquished (FPS, Alpha Stage) - New Game?

Postby Steve » Wed Apr 17, 2013 1:04 am

SUMMARY

UNVANQUISHED appears to be an open-source multiplayer-only FPS game presently at a playable Alpha stage (Alpha 14 is the latest build). It looks as though development started in early 2012. The premise is futuristic, humans versus aliens. Tech level is stated as a highly modified Quake 3 (called the "Daemon" engine). I could not find this on the website in either 3D Shooters or Adventure Legends.

Postby Steve » Sat Apr 27, 2013 7:41 pm

SPYRA appears to be a first-person combat game with light RPG elements presently in an actively-developed alpha state. The game is being created by one person and the engine used is FPS Creator. Alpha demo (which is supposedly password-protected, the password being "fidelio") is available on the website.
