Manhunt 2

Postby Doomed_Space_Marine » Mon Dec 22, 2008 7:12 am

Since this game avoided release on the PC, is it worth pursuing an uncut version on consoles, like PS-2 or Wii? Has anyone here played it?

I thought the original game was awesome, most intense experience I have ever had in front of a computer monitor

Righty right.. I also played part one on PC and finished it a couple of times. Great game.

Part 2 was one of the main reasons for me to get a PS2. I really like the game though near the end it's getting a bit boring. Also I played that beta version which appears as the only uncensored version available... that version still has a lot of bugs. Speech missing, some cutscenes are not really sync, forced subs missing and I even experienced one or two complete crashes :P

The most annoying thing is that you're playing directly from DVD which slows down loading processes to an abnormal slow level.

Another thing.. this might be a personal problem.. but how can anyone control a 3d game with such a controller? It's hard to precisely move where you really want and that's a big minus. If you're not used to playing 3d games with a PS2 controller take care: it is sooo frustrating in the beginning :x

So you see: my experience is a bit influenced by my lack of PS2 skills hehe. Also I am not sure if it's better to get that final version though it's censored.. the bugs described above are a bit annoying ;)

:thanks:

I think I can probably live without it for now :)

At the moment I don’t have a PS-2, though I have a soft modded Xbox which is fairly cool, especially being able to run games directly from the hard drive.

I agree that control pads are really cumbersome for 3d action games, especially when you can’t save anywhere you want  When I played Gears of War on the PC, (fab game IMO) I thought to myself how much harder it would be if I was fannying around with a controller instead of a using 1800dpi mouse :D

Cheers

I've got a chipped Wii, allowing me to build custom DVDs which will still be read on the machine. Because of that, I decided to do some tinkering with the Wii NTSC version of Manhunt 2, applying the 'decensor' patch that's similarly worked on the other console versions (basically removing the 'blur' effect).

However, I wasn't much impressed, as I think the original Manhunt 1 was still more brutal due to the explicit camera positions. The ones in the Wii's retail release don't really show much anyway, be it with or without the overlay. And even 'removing' the overlay didn't really remove it completely, so the view was still somewhat pixelated/distorted. :(

However, there are some nice ini files to tinker around with, including some that seem to define how the camera's are positioned.

Here's a little document I seem to still have, detailing some of my results:
Code: Select all
This is an ini-based  compare between release Manhunt_2-USA-WII-PreCiSiON
and the Manhunt.2.Banned.Uncut.PAL.MULTI5.PS2DVD release from a torrent.
Furthermore, I checked w1-mh2[UNCUT].cso, 1060356865 bytes, crc 40B027D4.

GENERAL OBSERVATIONS:
--------------------
1) Files/dirs in the Wii ISO sometimes use longer filenames.
2) Sound volumes are toned down a bit in the Wii release.

Just in case it helps. Notably, it could be fun to edit the game's weapons, as that's easy with the ini apparently. ;)

Also, it's somewhat fun to see the Wii edition doesn't feature the dildo as a weapon... :D

Not sure if Manhunt 1 was more brutal really. It was new back then, yes.. but there are some explicit scenes in Manhunt 2. Don't ask me for details please.. it's months since I played the last time.

Is it true we can cut heads then rape throats in Manhunt 2 ? (I read that somewhere but I guess it's a joke)

That's only true for the hidden Guantana.. level if you're playing with US console setting

Seriously: Some loose their head from time to time but I never heared about the rape feature.
