Freddy (1998 platformer)

Postby Wastrel » Wed Jun 18, 2014 2:06 pm

While browsing through my old PC gaming magazine coverdiscs, I have found a game which is not present on Adventure legends yet, but I can recommend it to you as I see you also collect platformer games on AL. However, I have some problems with this game, so I only upload it if you really want it for archiving purpose on the site. The problems are the following:

- The game's name is Freddy, but the files on the CD refer to it as "Jumboy". I haven't found a single match on Google about this game, and what's even more funny, the game doesn't contain any information about who's the developer or the publisher (I just have a credits containing the developers' names, but nothing else).
- There are other files which take place on the CD, namely demos from some (then-new) games. So making a proper image of this CD is impossible, I can upload two versions for you:
a, bin/cue image of the whole CD
b, a custom ISO with cutting out the game demos
Which one do you prefer more?
- The game doesn't have any music, this leads me to the conclusion that the game uses CD-audio which was cut out by the magazine's publisher in favor of putting game demos to the saved space (they did the same thing with Blaster! a few months earlier)

Some screens I took:

BTW the game installs and works well on Windows 7 64 bit without needing to set any compatibility options.

The game itself is hilariosly bad and doesn't contain a manual or any kind of information about the gameplay and goals. I just couldn't exit the game without using CTRL-ALT-DEL, and couldn't even beat the first level (not that I tried much). The levels appear to be non-linear.

Basic info I could determine:
Game name: Freddy
Release Year: 1998
Country: Poland
Language: English

I took the game from CD Guru 1999/2, a Hungarian magazine. There is no printed media for this magazine, just a 4-page cover / introduction / CD contents index / advertisement combo, it was a pure CD-issue back then and was a complementary to the more famous PC Guru.

I'll upload the game until saturday.
