Jumpstart Advanced: 4th Grade

Postby Sytris » Sun Jan 21, 2018 9:44 am

Having difficulty with Jumpstart Advanced: 4th Grade from this link (http://www.legendsworld.net/site/downlo ... rror=12964). I have it downloaded (twice in case I'd messed something up the first time), and each time I can't find where I'm supposed to download it from. I can view files, but I mostly just keep opening, what seems like, a neverending supply of zip files. Can you please help me figure out how to install this? I had 0 issues with Jumpstart Advanced: 3rd Grade from the same place. There was a nice autorun button and it's worked beautifully. How do I fix this?

*Edit because I forgot* I'm on a Windows 10 operating system.

It's a double packed scene release, meaning that a CD image is packed into 15MB parts, which themselves are packed into larger archives. You have 3 files, named jsa4g1, jsa4g2 and jsa4g3. Extract each of them, you will get three sets of archives named after the CD:
jsa4g1-4kids.rar to jsa4g1-4kids.r27 are CD1
jsa4g2-4kids.rar to jsa4g2-4kids.r06 are CD2
jsa4g3-4kids.rar to jsa4g3-4kids.r13 are CD3.
Extract jsa4g1-4kids.rar, jsa4g2-4kids.rar and jsa4g3-4kids.rar and you will get three CD images.

It is actually a CD image, in a format that comes up as a pair. The .bin file (the larger of the two) contains the disc data while the .cue is a descriptor for audio tracks if there are any. Windows 10 handles natively .iso images but not the other formats, bin/cue being of of them. You need a virtual drive like MagicDisc (should work with Win10 still), Daemon Tools Lite or Virtual CloneDrive to mount them. Once you have installed one of these, provide it with the .cue file and the .bin will automatically be associated - they behave more or less like a .iso.

WinXP compatibility mode? It's a 2003 game so might work.

Right-click on the game's shortcut, then on "Properties". There is a "Compatibility" tab which offers several options, start by trying to set the compatibility mode to WinXP, and if this is not enough, tweak the other options. I'll try running the game on Win8.1 later tonight.

It worked flawlessly on my Win8.1 x64 machine, without compatibility options. Did you apply the crack? There is a crack.rar file in the archive of CD1, extract its content to C:\Program Files (x86)\JumpStart\JumpStart Advanced 4th Grade and overwrite the original executable. If you got rid of the archives you can downloaded the crack separately here:
Code: Select all

checked , it works fine in Win10 ... native
by the way did you enabled Legacy Support for DirectX Backward Compatibility ? That way you can run old games that where made for old direct versions from dx1 to Dx9c

Start > Settings > Control Panel > Program and Features > on your Left side panel "Turn windows features off and on" > Tick "Legacy Components"

after that install DX that is needed for this game , then download and install DX9c... windows 10 does not have it ... its only has dx12 and it misses a lot of library dll that some old games need ... and play
