This is an early game from the Ukranian developer which later made the Carnivores series. The player takes on the role of an unnamed Marine whose mission is to stop the so-called Time Strikers, mutant beings invading different time epochs, from taking over the earth. On this mission, he visits places ranging from military bases in the present to Pharaonic tombs in ancient Egypt. All of the levels involve dark corridors, often like that of catacombs and crypts. This has similar graphics to Quake 1, but is not as good. There's 16 large levels. It has inventive bad guys and weapons, and boss creatures that require thought to kill. With opponents, also single body parts can be shot. There are briefings before the missions. Rain and flying leaves provide for more atmosphere, but still the game is rather boring. The retail CD includes a level editor for the creation of custom maps. Chasm can also be edited using the Doom WAD editor XWE. An official addon adds three new levels along with new monsters and is available as a free download from the developer's website. On Oct 20/2022, a remastered version was released with: full 4K support, improved sound design, achievements, and localized into twelve languages. | ||
