I agree with some thoughts. The games became more boring since 2002, the reasons are:

The creators begun to mix FPS with Strategic tactics and Simulation.
The games become more short, too short. The standard now are 4 to 6 hours.
The creators are more occuped thinking on put more and more pixels ...
