Broken internal links - 3D-shooters

Postby Smiling Spectre » Wed Jul 04, 2007 11:37 am

I found another site! ;)
1991-93:
Terminator 2029 MP: Operation Scour "glued" to previous Terminator 2029 and haven't link "to top"
1994:
Nitemare 3d - link not works
1995:
Immoral Cumbat haven't link "to top". It _almost_ on top, though... Error in description: greyscale only _first_ level of game. The rest have more and more color. :)
MechWarrior 2 MP: Ghost Bears Legacy "glued" to previous MechWarrior 2
Terminal Velocity - one of download links at right of others. Why?
1996:
All Chex Quests "glued" to each other and haven't link "to top", except fist.
Doom 2: Hell To Pay and next Doom 2: Perdition's Gate haven't link "to top".
All Duke Nukems "glued" to each other (it's system? Ok, I understand) and haven't links "to top" (I think, this is wrong), except first and last "Nuke it! 2.0". But Nuke It! mentioned in the index on the top of the page very aside of other and _this_ link "to top" not works (to be correct, it leads to year 1997).
Duracell: Run The Bunny haven't link "to top".
All Quakes glued together on page and haven't links "to top".
A.D. Cop haven't link "to top"
Descent 2 MP: The Infinite Abyss / Vertigo glued, haven't link "to top"
F!Zone for Fury3 haven't link "to top"
1997:
Bloods glued together, haven't links "to top"
Dukes _not_ glued together and have links! Why?! ;) Also Nuke It! 1000 too far from other "duke-titles".
All Quakes separated. Quake MPs is neighbours in index, but divided on page.
Rednecks glued, MP haven't link to top.
Quake TC: X-Men haven't link "to top"
Quake 2: Complete Gamer Add-on - link "to top" leads to year 1998.
1998:
Damage Incorporated _have_ link "to top" (it is first title on page :) )
Half-Lifes glued together, haven't links "to top".
Quakes 2 _not_ grouped together on page.
Rednecks not grouped.
Spec Ops glued, MP haven't link "to top"
Z.A.R.s glued, MP haven't link "to top"
1999:
Hidden & Dangerous glued with MP, MP haven't link "to top"
Natural Fawn Killers: Santa's Gone Postal - rare case, when index link have longer name, then entry on page. It must be?
Unreal: Unreal World have link "to top", that points to year 1998
Descent 3 glued with MP, MP haven't link "to top"
2000:
Rogue Spears MP glued, second haven't link "to top"
2001:
Operation Flashpoints glued, haven't links "to top"
Torrente - haven't link "to top"
House Of The Dead 2 - broken link
2002:
Ghost Recon MPs separated
Medal of Honors glued, MP haven't link "to top"
2003:
Battlefield 1942 MPs separated
2004 is clear
2005:
Call of Duty 2 - link is broken
Chameleon - link is broken, and I cannot see game on page at all
Shadowgrounds - link is broken
2006 is clear

When an addon/MP is released the same year as the game, the both games are "glued". And there's no "top" for the addon. Games are also supposed to be sorted by date. Here's what I've corrected :

1994: Nitemare 3d - link not works //fixed

1995:
Immoral Cumbat haven't link "to top". It _almost_ on top, though... Error in description: greyscale only _first_ level of game. The rest have more and more color. //added "top" and removed wrong sentence in description

MechWarrior 2 MP: Ghost Bears Legacy "glued" to previous MechWarrior 2
Terminal Velocity - one of download links at right of others. Why?
//I don't understand what you mean.

1996:
Doom 2: Hell To Pay and next Doom 2: Perdition's Gate haven't link "to top". //added "top"

//removed the "top" for nuke it

Duracell: Run The Bunny haven't link "to top".
A.D. Cop haven't link "to top"
F!Zone for Fury3 haven't link "to top"
//added "top"

1997:
Quake TC: X-Men haven't link "to top" //added "top"
Quake 2: Complete Gamer Add-on - link "to top" leads to year 1998. //fixed

1998: Damage Incorporated _have_ link "to top" //removed "top"

1999:
Natural Fawn Killers: Santa's Gone Postal - rare case, when index link have longer name, then entry on page. It must be?
//I don't understand what you mean.

Unreal: Unreal World have link "to top", that points to year 1998 //fixed

2001:
Torrente - haven't link "to top" //added "top"
House Of The Dead 2 - broken link //fixed

2005:
Call of Duty 2 - link is broken
Shadowgrounds - link is broken
//fixed

Chameleon - link is broken, and I cannot see game on page at all
//For some unknown reason, the game was removed from the site at the end of march 2006. Thanks to you (and a backup of the page) it's re-added now.

Thanks again for all your help.

//I don't understand what you mean.

Oh. Than your system was broken many times begin from 1998 and up. I don't mention every game, that _have_ links "to top", but "glued", and there was many such games in early 2000s on page. No, I will not check it again! For now, at least. :)

But why? Is it have sense to track every title up to month or even day of release and even not mention this date on page?
I think, year of release plus indexing by name is enough - at least, Adventure legend seems keep this principle.

Scaryfun already explain the issue. :)

Oh. Than your system was broken many times begin from 1998 and up.

This was designed this way especially since there were many more addons in early years....for Doom, Duke3D, etc. It's not a big deal.

With FPS games, since they started only in early 90's, there's better record of specific release dates to use (unlike adventures where games from 80's are impossible to find exact date, so I just put each year in alphabetical order instead). Also, progression of 3d engines and game innovations is important to FPS fans so knowing which game came out first is interesting to know.

On IE it has that problem, but on Firefox it's ok.

As you say. :) My perfectionist mind simply can't tolerate TWO systems simultaneously. :) One is "one game - one link to top", other is "ten glued game - one link to top". :) Now it's both. I think, first is preferred, because it's simplier and faster to jump to title and back rather then scro-o-ol several pages of addons to find a link, and I am actually not see reason to not having such link. But it's your choice, of course. In that case you have approx. 7 years of "wrong" links here and there. :)

Ok, then I suggest to put release date for this games on page. Now your system is slightly... non-obvious, as I can say. ;)
