I think Megaupload just had the bad fortune of getting large enough to get noticed (and being based in the US). There are much worse pirate hosts out there, like Rapidshare (in the past), Hotfile, Oron, Letitbit, etc

Well, the bills have been postponed indefinitely as Obama'a aides say they cannot support it the way it was written. So for now, it is dead. If they want to go after criminals then fine, but to impinge on the freedom of the internet is going to far. We don't want to follow in China and Iran's footsteps of censoring sites they don't like or that criticize their governments.
Good job to those who voiced their disagreement and outrage. That's what has to be done anytime in the future when such things are attempted. In the end, governments will still be corrupt but when they see a massive wave of disgust, they fear losing their jobs and so can't be totally in the hands of corporations. :P

It was the MPAA that got Megaupload shut down, because of their MegaVideo hosting appearantly...

It's very sad about Megaupload because tons of blogs uploading rare music or rare homebrew apps had their links disappear in a snap, and it's unlikely they will all be uploaded again, because many were just links let there until their death. I guess in court the judge will demand a list of titles from the plaintives that they think have been violated, and you will see it will all be stuff you can find anywhere else. It's all the rare Megaupload stuff, the reason why such site should exist, that will have vanished. Very upsetting.

I don't believe that filesharing will ever stop, wrether it's on the WWW or outside of it. It's like the drug market: the only thing that would ever stop it would be to make drugs legal (unfortunately, because I'm against the drug mafia and all the pain that it involves).

Edit: I just read on the Chat board someone mentions that Megaupload was filed mostly because of Megavideo (streaming site), but Megaupload also filed a suit against UMG last December, over some video that UMG took down (on Youtube) and Megaupload wanted up. Maybe that didn't help, bringing UMG to court like that.

Several online movie sites down, several host sites down, several game download sites down (mine too), some torrents are going to court and probably they will shut down, some crack groups hiding like rats (some games are not fully cracked yet, months passed) and they are waiting another FBI - police attack at any moment.

So we are doomed for now, that's all...

Jebus... Rastan, STFU and stop causing panic with claims like that. Seriously. Shut up. NOW. All you do is scare people. Don't spread panic.

Back in TorrentBits.org/SuprNova.org days there was a major anti-piracy action. Back in TorrentLeech.org/MiniNova.org same shit happened. And now it happens again.

All the FBI people do is cyclically create a void that in a matter of months will be filled with replacements for currently down services.

Actually thank GOD for what's happening now. It's a concrete proof that internet doesn't need SOPA & PIPA to combat piracy -- the current means at the authorities' disposal are more than enough and thanks to the lockdown of MegaUpload we've avoided a catastrophe that SOPA & PIPA would introduce: complete global saturation of internet censorship. True, we're paying a price, the filesharing scene became unstable and it'll take a few months for it to recover, but it eventually will arise from all of it. It's like a hydra - cut off one head and two more will grow in its place.

Just wait peacefully.

I'm an optimist.
1. People will ALWAYS find a way to share files (regardless of the temporary file-sharing sites sinking :( ).
2. I've downloaded pretty much all the stuff I need for this life and a couple of more (actually I can't read, play, watch or listen to 0.00000001 of all the crap I already have).

So called Lord Delacroix;
What kind of idiot you are huh? You cant say to me "shut the fck up", you moron. I never talk anyone in here with that way. So you MUST be polite against to all members. You are not a special one in here. You can NOT criticise anyone's writings in here with that way. You did this before several times against several members but our "beloved" admins or moderators - who they warned me for my every error- did nothing to you, why for? Who do you think you are, huh child?

I am not in a panic. Panic is only for your type of lifeless organism who spend all life on their computers. I dont care what is going on internet. If the sharing is end, no problem for me, I have a real life and life is goin on, that's all. I have just given a chaos report to all of you with a little bit exaggerated for fun.

Now Fck off and stay away from me...

Thing is, you DO cause panic. You might not care, but others certainly do. So-called doomsday prophecies about end of filesharing in general only add to it and that is precisely what you posted there. I hate such attitude and I always react harshly to it -- there's a damn good reason, because it just scares people off. If you don't understand it, it's your problem, but if you continue to spread panic, it becomes the problem of others. Keep your issues contained to yourself, or you'll scare off potential uploaders with yapping like that. A short while back I saw new people coming in, the panda guy and the sith guy among them. Do you think others WILL follow suit if they read posts like that, proclaiming 'end of filesharing'? Just goddamn think about it. You do more damage with such claims than you think.

I can see why rastan is ticked off, Delacroix. It's the tone of your post (STFU isn't really a nice thing to say, even if it's abbreviated...).
As for spreading panic, that can only happen if the message is received by others. Censorship is a harsh measure; It's up to other posters (seeing from the likes of it, the majority of posters here) to explain that the 'scene' going underground a bit more isn't really a bad thing.

Thing is, we have guests, lurkers that might register and share stuff. This type of doomsday prophecies might lead them into believing that LW is another ship that's sinking -- and then, why would they share their treasures? If we minimize panic sowing, we won't have to reap the consequences.
