Old Games Finder (old Independent Software is back)

Postby DJ Speedstar » Sun Jul 20, 2014 12:54 pm

Hello 3DSL members.
After long pause for years because of real life and lack of time, old (since 2003) Independent Software search engine for old games has been returned to life.
It is no more portal style like it was in the past, but focus on our search engine that was successful.
Project has been renamed to Old Games Finder.
The idea is to find old games for real download (no bullshiting) very quickly instead of long journey with google or each website exploring.
Search engine uses automatic indexing for good enough websites choosen by us.
Currently we support PC games, but expanding updates are planed.
You can suggest good PC websites for indexing in this post.
3D Shooter Legends and Adventures has been already indexed.
We will appreciate any suppport.
We had it a lot from scaryfun and I believe that our search results brought some new users to 3DSL community.

Old Games Finder has been opened for public today:

That's great news! :D I'll go through my website bookmarks for any decent old game sites and post them.

Atari, Commodore (including NIB format), MAME (and other arcade machines), Nintendo, Sega platforms have been added.
They will be extended after time, so if you know some huge archives, let me know.

Especially important are websites or ftps with rare titles, special editions, updated patched versions and addons.
There are many sources that host just the same titles.
More valuable are harder to find ones.

I am thinking also about section for game music and manuals.

Not so huge, but Windows 3.11 section seems to be interesting. I will add it to index.

http://www.demu.org/

Nice collection, but many titles there are demos.

I already have this one on list for emulation platforms. Good source for newer titles.

This blog seems to use mainly torrents, so instead of it, you could just use The Pirate Bay.

I couldn't tell which ones you have in the database already, but it seems you use MyAbandonware, C:DOS, GamesWin, HOTU, OldCans, LegendsWorld, oldgames.ru, old-games.ru, kmzpub, dosgames.ru, Abandonware Utopia, oldgames.sk, Abandonia, classic-gaming.net, ISO Zone, juegoviego.com, and freegamearchive.com .

Here's some other sites not on that list for you to sort through.

http://coreduo.me.uk/ - Has a very random assortment of both old and new games. Not sorted at all, but I've found some gems there, like the ISO of Full Tilt Pinball that I can't find anywhere else.
http://www.abandonware-france.org/ - Been around for a long time. Has English and French versions of many games.
http://www.bestoldgames.net/
http://classictrash.net/ - Used to be a huge site on the net. Recently resurrected.
http://dosdose.com/
http://www.emuparadise.me/Abandonware_Games/51 - Mostly a ROM site, but with an abandonware section.
http://www.freegameempire.com/
http://www.gamegraveyard.net/
http://www.gametronik.com/site/index.php - Another site with both ROMs and abandonware.
http://games-history.ru/
http://holyfile.com/ - Mix of abandonware and freeware.
http://www.liberatedgames.com/ - List of abandonware that is now freeware.
http://www.monkeygames.me/ - Mix of German and English language games.
http://www.old-games.com/ - Incredible collection of games, but requires monthly subscription to get fast downloads. Good for searching for some hard to find games, but annoying otherwise.
http://www.oldschoolapps.com/
http://www.squakenet.com/ - An aggregate site with links to downloads.
http://www.goodolddays.net/
http://www.xtcabandonware.com/

Hope this helps!

Thank you for your detailed suggestion.
Will check them all as soon as it will be possible (working not only on PC platforms).
We are no more looking for mirrors of just popular titles.
Only sources of rare stuff will be indexed.

PC update.

Removed websites:
- C:DOS Community (they started to host only demos)

Removed non downloadable titles from:
- GamesWin
- Abandonia
- Classic Gaming

Added new websites:
- Game Graveyard
- EmuParadise
- 486Games
- Arena80
- MonkeyGames

Language tags added:
- Arena80
- MonkeyGames

Other website suggestions have been rejected due to one of following reasons:
- no rare stuff
- some mixed demo and shareware files
- some not working downloads
- too slow downloads

All links already posted here have been deeply verified.

We are still open for rare title sources.

Thanks.
