TRANSLATION HELP WANTED!

Postby Scaryfun » Thu Jun 17, 2004 9:26 pm

Hi, everyone! We need the help of someone who understands both written German and English in order to translate existing German game descriptions and reviews into English.

Right now there is a mixture of the two on site but we think that having the site in English will attract more visitors and contributors. We still appreciate our German friends who have contributed so much to the site in the past and hope they will stay with us but in English it will be more universal to foreign visitors and hopefully will help to keep the site alive.

The translation doesn't have to be perfect as I can clean up the grammar later, but it does have to be understandable.

Any contribution is appreciated, it can be done obviously as time permits as there is no deadline and the more volunteers we have, the less each person has to do.

To get the html, just copy the link on the menu buttons, for example -
http://meineseite.i-one.at/ua19046/3dsh ... 5frame.htm
http://meineseite.i-one.at/ua19046/3dsh ... 6frame.htm

go there on Internet Explorer and use "source" option on each page as they are one big htm code.

Please help us and thanks in advance!!
Scaryfun.

I haven't heard from DarkNova or Puma since we moved forums so I don't know if they are still working on these pages as they haven't registered here yet.
I pm'd them on the old forum but if you guys are still around here please re-register here and let us know.

Thanks,
Scaryfun.

Thanks to Lovely who has done the 1994 page and is working on the 95 and 96 ones now.

I myself am slowly making my way through the 2003 page which has the largest number of games of any year.

Finally i can put my translation software to some use.
I've finish what wasn't done in 96 97.
I just copied & pasted word for word into my software & saved it as year96.doc & year97.doc
It only took 30min. or so.
Now someone will have to read thru & change a few words. But its done.
Where can i upload the documents too? There only a few kb's
I'll do 98 99 next.

Thanks for that! :)

Lovely was already signed up for 1996 but I can compare what you did and see how well it works. Do the sentences make sense after you've translated all the words? I use a web translator which is probably not as good and some translated sentences I can't make any sense out of.

I'll pm you with a place to up the files.

Just bumping this up. I never got anything from SpineSplitter.

If anyone can help with the translation tasks please do so. It's your chance to help the site even if you can't up a game. :)

Thanks for the offer loki, :)
hope you're able to get around to it eventually.

I know from personal experience it's not the most fun work but we're slowly getting there....just finished the Mod-Addon translation.

Hmm.. I think translation software can't do it as good as "real" Germans, right?
I tried such apps/services myself and I don't think they're very good for translating whole texts/descriptions.

Hi! Hope your upload goes well! :D

Thanks for the offer of the translation software as well. I use this free website -
http://translation.paralink.com/translation.asp

Can you try you software on one lengthy game description and compare the translation to what this site gives? If it is indeed better then I would gladly thank you for it. 8)
Right now some sentences are totally unreadable from the translation and I have to scrap them....others I can gather the intent of the sentence and try to write something similar in English (hopefully it is).

Thanks,
Scaryfun.

i just got my diploma (Mark: B) as foreign language correspendant in english from the ICC (international chamber of commerce). if you'll tell me which page i should translate, i would be grateful to do this (mostly at the weekends).

and in german.

ich hab grad meine prüfung zum "Fremdsprachenkorrespondent - Englisch" (Note: 2) vor der IHK abgelegt und kann euch beim Übersezten behilflich sein. sagt mir nur, welche site/frame, und ich fang über die Wochenenden damit an.

Ohmyf*ckingGod !!! u use Translation-shit-software ?? please on't blame yourself. everybody knows, that translation-software (and even dictionaries of "Langensheidt") are the most crappy thing for people which are trying to translate something. (i, personally, use the "Oxford dictionary - Unilingue. an Dictionary in English only!)

Thanks, satani! :)
You can start on the 2001 page.

Regarding your comments on using a dictionary instead.....well, even finding which meaning of a word fits into the sentence and the meanings of entire phrases can be lost in translation too....especially for people with no real knowledge of German, like me.

Lovely said the 2001 page was done, but I never received it. Are you still around? :? If not, we can get someone else to do it.
