G-nome videos

Post by pincopallo73 »

Hi to everyone... first of all I want to thank everyone has posted a game: you are great... there are games that I couldn't find anywhere else!

Among the others I have downloaded G-nome: I have only some problems with the videos (in windows XP)... the game works but during videos I can only hear the sound and got no images!

Any suggestion?

I have tested it on an old PC with Windows 95 and everything (also videos) worked!

Thank you again!

Here's a suggestion:

1. Go to
http://www.4shared.com/dir/5705822/b6d5 ... aring.html

2. Download cvid32.zip.

3. Extract the file ICCVID.DLL to the G-nome folder on your PC.

Hopefully this will fix the problem, if it's caused by the Win XP SP2 that comes with the newer version of Cinepac Codec that doesn't work with some games. What you actually do with this fix is that you use the older version of codec that (hopefully) works.

It helped with Starship Titanic.

Solution: not working

Post by pincopallo73 »

Unfortunately the suggested solution doesn't work... I copied the file il the G-nome directory but it ignored the new codec...

The videos still play without images and only with sound...

Any other suggestion?

Thank you again!

IIRC, gnome used bink or smacker for videos (look for binkw32.dll or smackw32.dll, and video files ending in .bik or .smk).

anyway, did you try setting the compatibility mode (right-click EXE, properties, compatibility) to windows 95?

Already tried

Thank you but... I have already tried to set compatibility for the exe and also to set number of colors to 256 (G-nome used only 256 colors) and resolution to 640x480 (another limitation for g-nome)...

with no success...

the game works, the videos are black (only with sound)
