Early Access, Full Release Date: Aug 1/2017 It can be fun to wonder whether you could survive being stranded in the wilderness using solely your wits, but actually testing that theory isn't particularly advisable. The Long Dark is probably a safer way to get your answer. Though its episodic Story Mode, you will follow William Mackenzie's post-plane crash exploration in the aftermath of a global disaster. Brave the elements and other survivors, hunt for supplies, explore the world, uncover the mystery. Sandbox Mode is a do-what-you-want fight for survival in the game's take on northern wilderness. Survivors will get "dozens of hours" out of learning how to fend for themselves in the unforgiving cold. Episode One: Do Not Go Gentle Bush pilot Will Mackenzie (player character) and Dr. Astrid Greenwood are separated after their plane crashes deep in the Northern Canadian wilderness in the aftermath of a mysterious flash of light in the sky. Struggling to survive as he desperately searches for Astrid, Mackenzie comes across the small town of Milton, where he begins to understand the scope of this quiet apocalypse. Episode Two: Luminance Fugue Mackenzie's search for Astrid takes him deeper into the savage Winter wilderness. A mysterious trapper may be the key to finding Astrid, but can he be trusted? The first two episodes of WINTERMUTE represent approximately 15 hours of gameplay. Episode Three: Crossroads Elegy (Oct 22/2019) the story is told through Astrid’s eyes. It picks up the story at the moment after Astrid and Mackenzie got separated in Milton at the opening of Episode One. Astrid is rescued by an enigmatic stranger and now, facing the blizzards of Pleasant Valley, she has to use all of her skills as a doctor to help the survivors she encounters while trying to find Mackenzie. Will she succeed and also get closer to the mystery that's taking them to Perseverance Mills? Episodes Four to Five (TBA) are included in the price of the game, and will be unlocked for free as they are released. Features performances by Jennifer Hale, Mark Meer, David Hayter, and Elias Toufexis (Episode Three), and the music of Cris Velasco. In Dec/2018, REDUX Episodes 1+2 were released as a free update which makes big changes to the entire scripted part of the game. Apart from the graphic improvements and other details it's mainly the arrival of the animations of the characters during dialogues that mark this new version. In these cutscenes - all of which have been reworked - you will now be in FPS view face fully animated faces and dialogue fully doubled. These have also been partially rewritten and new places and events are emerging without disrupting the original story.
