As the game begins it is shortly before the annual Mushroom festival and
Gilbert's grandpa has been keeper of the sacred mushroom for the past year. But
suddenly a masked thief sneaks up behind Grandpa, flattens him with a mallet, and
steals the mushroom. Now Grandpa is going to be executed for his unforgivable
dereliction of duty and Gilbert must try to save him. This is a long, 2D, 3rd
person, point and click game with an inventory and map, and it is very easy to
play. The music is happy and the graphics are truly outstanding: bright and
colorful, with that wonderful clean, crisp and light-filled feeling that is so
typical of Scandinavia. The attention to detail is simply amazing, even down to
things like making the map reflect changes in the story and creating some very
funny credits (make sure you read them after you watch them). And the puzzles are
story related with unexpected twists, absurdly logical, inventory based, and fun
to do. They range in difficulty, with some that are fairly challenging. However it
is the original and often laugh-out-loud humor that puts this game over the top.
The characters are absolutely delightful and the voice acting is quite good. The
game was started as a one-person project who later got help from others to finish
it. |
