Torcher: Arsonist of Evil Digital Design Development / Padmini Multimedia Limited 1997

You may have played detective games and put kidnappers, spies or murderers behind bars plenty of times. But here's a detective mystery game with a twist. You are Sgt Steele of the 53rd division and help the fire department. You have to try and capture a guy who really loves to play with fire and that's putting it lightly. The hunted here is a person setting fire to a different place everyday. He is no ordinary man either, he has come right out of the depths of hell! Maybe that explains his obsession with fire. As the hero of the game you have to collect and decipher all the clues you can find and put an end to this madness. All the action takes place in a small town called Harrisville. Each fire is linked in some way or another, for the arsonist always leaves behind notes at the scene of the crime. The arsonist is not only an expert at setting fires but is also an expert of explosives and this makes him even more dangerous. You start out by staring at a building going up in flames. Turn around and you see your fire station. How to move? Not so simple, if you are playing Torcher for the first time. Click the mouse and the cursor changes, keep the mouse button pressed and move the mouse in the desired direction to 'look' in that direction. You can't go just anywhere and movement is quite limited. The game is filled with clues, so never miss out anything and inspect everything. If the object is a valid clue, you will see some message or some strange thing coming out of it or even under it. Click on everything and build up your clues. The game isn't a very long one, and it doesn't take you much time to die. If you waste too much time and let the arsonist continue his burning spree, you'll be torched too. The story is by no means slow. Waste too much time wondering what to do and another building or a house gets torched. You have to be on your toes all the time. If you are a die-hard mystery game player, this game will appeal to you. This game isn't for the young, it has a lot of gory stuff.
