Wild Wild West: The Steel Assassin SouthPeak Interactive, LLC 1999

From the television screen to the silver screen and now your computer screen comes the two bon vivants from the wild west, government secret agents Jim West and Artemus Gordon. The story begins about five years after the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln, at a time when the wounds caused by the titanic struggle between the North and the South are just beginning to heal. Ulysses Grant is now in the seat of power in Washington and he needs your help to survive. Based on the characters portrayed in the 1999 movie Wild Wild West by Will Smith and Kevin Kline, the game offers a different story line from that of the film. The True Executioner of Abraham Lincoln has threatened Grant's life and it falls on you, playing as both characters, to solve the mystery and save the President of the United States of America. And, to make matters worse, President Grant has agreed to attend the reopening of Ford's Theater, the very place where John Wilkes Booth, the alleged assassin of Lincoln, ended the 16th president's life. It contains puzzles to solve, clues to follow and unravel and a cast of suspects that will require the unique detective skills of each of the agents to narrow down. Questioning informants, relying on quick wits and reflexes to escape potentially dangerous situations and traditional wry humor from the two protagonists are but some of the features to be found in the game. A point and click interface coupled with onscreen hotspots, a smart cursor and inventory and weapons management are part of the mix designed to test your sleuthing skills. The game is played from third-person perspective in four episodes. Each agent is featured in two episodes: you'll rely on the sharp-shooting skills and numerous weapons of Jim West during his part and utilize the inventions and detecting skills of Artemus Gordon when he's the main player. The game features the duo's train, the Wanderer, as their home base. The musical score is based on the original movie compositions by Elmer Bernstein, customized skill settings allow you to adjust the gameplay to a personal comfort level and the wild west is depicted in 3D environments. Both cinematic sequences to hold the story together as well as fully developed areas of exploration and atmospheric western environments await the intrepid sleuth.
