Yes. There was a "Blood - bloodless version". And this is actually not just a rumor - it did exist. There was even a patch from Monolith to remove the censorship from "bloodless Blood".

I'll give this one a try and run a few tests with it. I'll tell you what I think of it then.

It's ancient cos the game, unlike Blood, does not use voxel sprites, room-over-room effects and decent texturing. Even new sourceports don't change that in doom: those that do (3D models, high-res texturing, etc) just throw away Doom's old scary atmosphere IMO. Those 3D models are even laughable ...

Btw. why is it ancient? Download this and this . Unpack the first zip and copy doom2.wad into the folder. Not create a subfolder called 'skins' and unpack the second zip into it.

Uhm... I think there was a port which was somewhat close to this. It was extracting the sound and the endings did not work. As it uses some sound-lib (fmod or something like that) I'm sure, it could be changed so that it plays oggs.

But seriously: a funny idea. It really made me laugh.

One solution when you have extracted the files is to rebuild the sound and speech files into .vdf files - these are packs of files that the unripped game uses. Use the tools in the rip ( work dir i think) . This will also make for a cleaner install and better file parsing - it will reduce the total ...

The error sounds more like it is a problem with your file system. What does your drive use, FAT-32 or NTFS?

Are you perhaps trying to decompress the game into a folder that is located in a lot of subdirectories? Does the error occure only on files that have a longer name and shorter ones work ...
