Noir: A shadowy thriller
Hello everybody and for once again happy new year!!!!
Did anyone try to play Noir: a shadowy thriller in Windows 3.1x with DOSBox? The following strange thing happens:
The game installs normally and everything seems to be ok.Videos are playing, game too. But only when the first CD is inserted. When you are asked to put the the second cd in the CD ROM and you do so then a video siquence is starting to play, cd rom is workling normally, but after a few moments stops and the following message is coming: "error can't open the....XXXX file" ,"error 21:frame not definded". I checked both Install folder and the CD-ROM and the missing file each time is available but the game simply can't find it and quits.Does anybody have an idea what's going on?
Thanks in advance!

Topic is solved
I looked into the Noir situation and have got it working on Windows XP and Windows 2000.
No hacks or cracks, just the missing file that should have shipped with the game in the first place.
Download and read the instructions.
Edit:
See new download link below.

Re: Noir: A shadowy thriller
I'm looking into it. I had a problem with Mega Manager. The old version I have no longer uploads files and I don't think the new version runs on Windows 2000. I'll see what their support people have to say....Scaryfun wrote:for reupping it. I don't think Mediafire will last long though...they tend to delete stuff fast. If it does disappear later on, try Megaupload instead.
Different subject:
I found two demo versions of Noir I downloaded years ago on my hard drive. One is just a slide show of screenshots and I think the other is playable. They would probably be hard to find now. If anyone collects that sort of stuff I can upload them.

First let me start by apologizing for digging up such an old thread, I didn't see anything in the rules about doing this, so I figure it's OK.
Second, I'm trying to play NOIR and I can't figure it out. I tried to install it in windows (I currently have win7 x64), and it gives me an error saying "this file is not compatible with this version of windows, check to see if you need an x86 or x64 version of the app." Does this mean the game is 16bit? So I tried installing win31 in dosbox, and the game installs, but the game won't launch. I keep getting an error saying to run the game in 640x480 with 256 colors. Changing the video settings in win31 didn't seem to have any effect, so I looked through all dosbox documentation to change the video modes or machine types, but nothing I did made any effect. I thought maybe if I run dosbox in compatibility mode, but that didn't work either. I even tried to use Win9x, but that didn't work (same resolution error, and changing had no effect). Someone here mentioned vmware. I've never messed with virtualization before, but I may as well start. So I installed dos and win31 in virtualbox, but I'm having difficulties just getting windows to work here. I do have the dll linked above, but it's not helping me either.
I feel like I've tried everything, and I'm growing weary. My efforts which I just summed up in a few paragraphs constitute a lot of my free time from the past few days. I'm frustrated and don't even have the energy to get windows working in virtualbox. If anyone can advise, I'd greatly appreciate it.
