Dead Reefs on XP

Post by rad1caldave »

Does anyone have any suggestions on getting Dead Reefs to run on XP? I have encountered everything from freezes to blank screens and even screens with garbage that require a hard restart in order go back to my desktop. Thanks for your help.

The game is running almost perfect with my XP SP3 (ATI HD 4200 with Catalyst 10.9 drivers)

... with some minor bugs of course just like some unvisible walls, no more.

I have an Nvidia Geforce 9600 gt. On my old ATI 9600pro it ran fine too. Basically, when I hit enter to start a new game it freezes at the download screen. The music still play in the background but that is all. All of my drivers are up to date and I have tried different compatibility and hardware acceleration settings, still no luck. From what I can tell from other message boards, this problem is quite common, but I could not find a solution.

If you tried all compatibility modes then I have got only one possible solution, "downgrade" your graphic card's drivers. Many old games dosent like that new drivers... ATI cards are contain same problems too. For example, now I cant play some Kheops Studio adventures like Cleopatra, Nostradamus, Dracula 3 etc with my Catalyst 10.9 and above. But when I downgrade drivers' version, they are working very well...
... or use your ATI card if your mainboard has support it, 9600 series were good, in my opinion still good. And do not search any patch for this game. This was never be a popular title (for me it was good), so it was never officially supported.
