Super 3D Noah's Ark is from 1994 or 1995?

Postby Eye del Cul » Wed Aug 26, 2009 6:32 pm

It seems to exist some confusion about the release year of Super 3D Noah's Ark. Some abandonware sites -like 3D Shooter Legends :), among others- say that the game was published in 1995, but others cite 1994. Wikipedia, MobyGames and Gamespot put the release date at 1994. According to IGN (http://pc.ign.com/objects/701/701540.html), the game was published in 31th December, 1994.

Actually, MobyGames has the pc version as 1995 and the SNES version as 1994. I would tend to go with them as they are more sticklers for accuracy than wikipedia and Gamespot actually says 1996 for pc version - http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/super ... lt;title;1

The copyright date in the readme is 1996, as are the file dates, although obviously file dates in archives are less reliable.
Sometimes the copyright year is earlier than the release year, but I think not the other way around.

There's two cases for both ways.

Diablo, is copyrighted in 1996 all over the game - the game came out in January 1997. Files dated 1997.

Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, came out in February 2002, shows copyright in the year 2002. Files dated December 2001.

Weird, isn'it it?

Also don't rely on most rip sites - some reset the timestamps in all files in all zips (regardless of game's year) to December 24, 1996, as if they were ROMS.
