Successor of MegaUpload now online

Code: Select all
http://mega.co.nz/

Apparently you'll get 50 GB of space as a free user. I haven't tried it yet.

Well, went there with Firefox and they advise you to use Chrome, they say other browsers are outdated. That's a bad start.

That's a VERY lousy start actually, I'm not going to change FF for CC just because that MegaSh*t site :-x says so.

I've deleted your last post as you asked. GigaWatt.

I took a quick look at the site with Firefox and didn't get any message suggesting to switch to GC. So far mega seems to work fine, let's just hope it will eventually work out as expected.

Yeah, now that message is gone. Looks like they've made some changes.

Tell us about the upload and download speeds for free users please.

OK, I tested a small file and the upload was fast. Now, the problem is that it takes way too long to process the file once it's uploaded (not to mention that you have to wait for a "decryption key" in order to download the file, that also takes time).
Finally, after entering the decryption key, nothing happened, no download whatsoever

This is certainly NOT good ol' Megaupload, I guess the site is still fairly new and they're sorting things out to improve... Hopefully.

They probably get too much traffic to handle at the moment. Maybe in a week things will be better.

I've uploaded a file to test for those that are interested:

Code: Select all
https://mega.co.nz/#!fk5C0aTQ!VH1QgSSj-TiZiPPyWp7n_CHDWi0OcEFR28yVf3zXwCQ

It's the 64-bits version of the open source Stellarium (stellarium.org), 58.5 MB.

I've uploaded the file as a free user (without an account) and used a Chromium baser browser (SRWare Iron) to do so.

Uploading didn't go very well, the site repeated the upload 2 times. Speed varies, it also paused sometimes.

Downloading went very fast (6 MB/s). There is a progress bar on the site: after it reaches 100% the file is saved on your HDD.

I don't think it works on other browsers yet. Tried IE and FF to download the file, those didn't work.

They offer an extension now for Firefox users.
