codec packs

Postby oldman » Wed Jun 25, 2014 4:16 pm

I was looking to see if there was any updates for The K-lite codec pack and i came across an alternative codec pack called KCP - Kawaii Codec Pack.

I haven't seen it before ,it seems to be on a website for fans of Japanese anime, and is actively updated.
it has a version of MPC-HC media player too.

experimental kcp black version(on version 4 atmo):
uses MPC-BE media player,(similar to mpc-hc)

It seems to have a good options menu for changing your setup to have certain codecs switched off ,if they are interfering with a game or something.

Minimum requirements:
Windows Vista, 7, 8 or 8.1

Does anyone know about this codec pack?,or whether k-lite codec pack is better.

EDIT:
I think it was originally started to support Hi10P content and ended up as a full codec pack,
more info here:
Code: Select all

This is an old topic ,but it explains a bit about what Hi10P content is.
It seems that Kawaii Codec Pack does the job now.

the thing is Japan/Chinese scene codes movies into OGM media files and you have to have VLC or KCP to be able to watch those movies/mangas
some even use RMVB media files

what is OGM , its the evolution of MKV ,the thing its ... from 2002 , the USA scene always played catch up to the Chinese/Japan
what is RMVB , its a century old thing back when Real Media was IN , its thiers codec that was made for steaming internet media but mostly low band nations use it to code movies

I'm glad I haven't seen an RMVB for a long time.. that was a crappy codec even when I had a far worse connection.
