Problem with Discworld Noir

Post by ugopaliotto »

I've a problem with Discworld Noir. After the installation, the game doesn't start at all. But on other PCs it works! I've read somewhere in the Web that the cause could be the file em_exec.exe, that's the Logitech MouseWare control system. I've disabled it before entering the game, but the problem remains. What could I do? Please help me, thanks!

there is a patch that fixes that problem , when i find it i will post it

EDIT:

Code: Select all

I found out how to get DiscWorld to work on WIndows XP. The problem lies in the SafeDisc copy
protection which is on Disc 1. SafeDisc is not compatiable with Windows XP. So you have to copy the 1st disc and remove the SafeDisc copy protection. http://m0005.gamecopyworld.com/games/pc_discworld_noir.shtml
CD-Copy Instructions:
Create the following temporary directory:
TempDir#1 : 'C:\TEMP\CD'
Copy the full contents of the original CD to TempDir#1.
Replace the original <TempDir>\TIN3_DXD.EXE file with the one from the Patch Archive.
Burn the contents of TempDir#1 to a 74 minutes CD-R using the same CD-Label as the original CD.
Play the game!
Here is the solution if you have a original CD its from the official DiscWorld Noir Site, the problem is that safedisk version from 1.0 to 2.8 is not compatible anymore with windows XP :x makes you wanna kill ...

---------------------------------------

This patch makes you run this under Winxp :
http://www.the-underdogs.info/game.php? ... world+Noir (patch is in the Technical Notes)
Well the patch from Underdogs is a Scene fix :P to run this game under winxp

But I have Windows 98 SE

I have Win98 SE, and I've read that this game should have no difficulties with this OS. My problem is exactly this: when I start the game, it returns to the desktop with the message "Discworld out of memory".

and i tell you its a Safedisk error , this error also accrues in win95

the bad thing is they never made a patch for this game , the good thing that the scene made they own patch , just try the Warriors Fix thats in the Underdogs and it should work

Code: Select all

'What machine will Noir need to run?' - Robert Whittle

'The game will run a P133 with 16MB of RAM.'

Hmm, tested on W98SE (fully patched) and no problemo (used the iso tho). I really dont know what it could be....try lowering the gfx card and sound card acceleration levels in windows.
