4 shared frustating wait times

Post by jaccoboy »

Most games here are upload to 4shared.com what is a very frustating service.

they has wait times for 6 minutes for each file i want to download.
for a game what have a lot of files take it hours to complete.
most games are uploaded in several parts of 48 mb or 95 mb each.
for a game what have a lot of files take it hours to complete.

4shared sucks

can someone take a another file hoster?

mediafire is lot better than 4shared.

is there a trick for these wait times?
ifnot then maby a torrent system is better than 4shared

The longer waiting time is a recent thing. Before it was only 40 sec. or so and you could download multiple files at once.

You can use JDownloader to queue all the files by copying the 4shared folder URL. It doesn't shorten the waiting, but at least it downloads all the files automatically.

I don't know if MediaFire is more reliable. Torrents are only good as long as there are seeders.

4Shared is not perfect (what file-hosting site is?) but there are obviously some reasons why it's (or at least was - these long waiting times for download appeared only recently) the most popular file-hosting site at Legends World. Or you believe people who upload there are stupid?

MediaFire is better for the downloaders (leachers), but not for the uploaders. Why? Try uploading some game every now and then just because the file-hosting site (yes, MediaFire is notorious for deleting files) keeps deleting your files and you'll figure out why. 4Shared deletes some parts of the archives occasionally, but generally files are safe there for years.

BTW, MegaUpload is MUCH better than both MediaFire and 4Shared.

The reason we use 4shared is for long-term availability of uploads on it. Hosts like Mediafire and Rapidshare suffer quick deletions. Megaupload is good but blocks some countries from getting files on it.
As suggested already, use http://jdownloader.org/
to automatically queue all 4shared links to download without having to wait manually. Last time I tried, I was able to download multiple files at the same time. So, try yourself and see how many will download at same time.

I think the reasons for using 4shared have been already outlined rather well. So I'll tackle the suggestion about torrents and I'm not going to do a very good job about it. Just for a second look at all the titles we have uploaded and think about the amount bandwidth that would be required on a constant basis for our active members (and we don't have that many) to be seeding them. Not to mention the incredible amount of space these take up. Now I know you can say space is getting much cheaper and it is, but regardless many of us cannot afford to have multi-terabyte raid arrays. Besides I know that I don't want to seed 100's of GB's of files 24/7 nor can I devote the space to it.

At the moment 4shared is the best for this site despite its recent and vastly annoying wait times. At best we don't have to replace titles for a couple of years and at worst it's usually just a few files that need replacing (sometimes the entire title gets deleted).

I would like to use megaupload exclusively but the country blocking will have to stop first for me to adopt that host on a more full time basis. Take the plunge and install jDownloader or a similar program, you'll save yourself a good bit of frustration. :)

I do like using jDownloader for 4shared files. Though in my experience in the past few weeks its starts out with a too short countdown (which it gets from 4shared which increases its countdown from 90 secs to 240 secs to 360 secs) and only works at first on 2 files at a time. It then says error outdated plugin. But the plugin is the latest it's just that you have to reset the downloads a few times until the countdown is at 6 minutes per file. Now you can either set jDownloader for a host limit of 2 or wait until it counts down the too short countdown and reset those files. Though once you get it working you can set up the downloads for hundreds of files and it'll work.

Oh yes. sometimes there is also the file not found error on new uploads so the file is there you just have to once again reset the files.

Well I just thought that I should post my experiences and my advice about resting the files to help anyone who's interested.

Exactly, using only torrents here is just not realistic. And even if we did, I'm sure only a handful of people would be willing to help seeding. Also, I can imagine that not everyone wants to leave their PC on all day and night.

With torrents the download speed depends on the amount of seeders. My guess is that with all the help we will (NOT) get, downloading from 4shared (including its waiting times) would still be faster than if we would be using torrents.

Thanks for the tip, now I can download multiple files again.

Don't forget you are getting it all for free. You can actually help out by making mirrors of our uploads on other sites.

It seems to be always the same with these such called "One Click File Hosters"... "too long" waiting times ... leechers ...

@jaccoboy:
What do you claim about?

For example, Megauupload has more than 40 seconds delays, too! So what? If this time is to long for you, just pay for your downloads!

But if you were able to configure your browser to use more than one pxy for each DL then you would'nt need to boil up such a topic like this as many other of you did.
It's boring.
4shd is !THE FASTEST! hoster for free users.
