Hi, I´ve got L&O- DM and despite the install go smoothly, the game doesn´t open after choose the windowed or full mode. My SO is XP SP3 and I didn´t install the Java console that comes with the game, cos my java version is 7.71.
Thx for any help.

Re: Law & Order Dead on Money - don´t open
I downloaded and play the non us version from here and it played ok on winxp sp3 about a year ago.
3CD ISO Demo 1.51GB (uploaded by Scaryfun)
I don't remember it needing java to run.
Did u get the game from here or are u talking about the free to play browser version ?
if u google ,u find various patches:
old patches-scroll site(shows all the patches available)
some other patch info:
I don't know if u need the patches or if they're already in the 3cd version uploaded here.
=====================================================================
also it's in this list at microsoft:
but i don't think the microsoft topic is relevant as you're on sp3.

If you're sure it's a java problem.
The only other thing is the obvious one of trying the older java version.
but that's a pain in the a*** to do.
edit:
check u haven't got any outdated versions in your programfiles java folder.
I had a prob with a program that was reading old java reg entries that hadn't been removed after uninstalling an old java version.
You have to make sure your environmental path is pointing to the correct java install.
This should be set up when u install java ,but sometimes it can be missing ,if java isn't installed correctly.

If you have an Intel 810/815 chipset and are experiencing problems with the game, the first patch is what you need. The second patch fixes the 'missing evidence problem' as well as previous gameplay related issues (mouse sensivity, efficiency skill)

Re: Law & Order Dead on Money - don´t open
same problem here, also win xp sp3. i downloaded both versions (2cd and 3cd), same thing, can't open, crash to desktop.
2cd version is slightly upgraded (windowed/full screen selection) and patched, but both versions need Java to work.
2cd version has Java installer included and there's a warning during installation that you won't be able to play without Java. 3cd version has a subfolder JRE in game's folder, so Java is installed without you knowledge.
there's always a new error log file created in game folder after game crashes or couldn't start, but my guess is that posting it won't help much. looks like that quicktime can't open/play intro. ingame qt is version 5, i tried qt version 4 and 7, same results, ctd in 640x480 resolution.

Re: Law & Order Dead on Money - don´t open
I think it's happened with a few other games on xp sp3 .
it would probably work on the original xpsp3 ,but without any Microsoft updates afterwards.
i played it ok about a year or two a go.
You could try using Microsoft compatibility wizard ,i downloaded it once before and it got a game working for me.
Though it's not that useful for other games.
QuickTime can cause problems with some games,if u haven't removed the newer version completely.
Though some older games work ok with modern quicktime
i dunno if putting the important parts(dlls) of older quicktime into the root of game folder would help.

The only other way you could try is with vm:
Molitor posted some ready to use win98 and win95 vm's. for virtualbox and vmware player.

Re: Law & Order Dead on Money - don´t open
Just tried it: the game seems to work fine on Windows 7 64-bit.
- Windows 7 64-bit (exe set to Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode)
- QuickTime Alternative v3.2.2
- Java 7 update 71 (but I think the game uses the Java files that are installed in the Law and Order directory)
I've used Scary's 3CD upload for testing.
Maybe it works fine with QuickTime Alternative:
