Codename: Outbreak (aka Venom)

Post by olli »

Hello,
i don´t get this game to run. I tried it on Windows 8.1 (in several compatibility modes..) and on a Windows 98 virtual machine that even runs blood 2 & invasion deutschland.
On Windws 8.1 tha game says i would need at least 1mb video memory an on virtual pc there seems to be problems with direct3d (remember: blood 2 the chosen runs perfectly!).
Any Idea? Any patches for newer Windows or other suggestions?
Thank you.

I didn't have much luck in getting it to run on Windows 7 64-bit. It says I don't have enough video memory available.

But I also tried it on Windows XP in VMware, and that worked fine (with the Codename Outbreak v2.1 patch). I believe Virtual PC doesn't support Direct3D acceleration. VMware does.

Doesn´t work. I get Direct3d error message. Fresh install of windows xp in vmware, than codename outbreak and the 2.1 patch.
Do you still know your settings in the configuration tool?
the windows dxdiag.exe runs perfectly but the game not.

oh - when i start dxdiag.exe in windows it says everything is fine but the config tool from C.outbreak says "dxdiag.exe can not be found". And i have no idea how to fix it.
that seems to be the problem.

I'm using Windows XP SP3 and VMware v9.

The settings are:

High resolution textures: on
Detailed textures: on
1024 x 768 x 32
Trilinear
Z-buffer depth: 32

Maybe updating DirectX will help:

Code: Select all

Also make sure to install VMware Tools if you didn't do that.

I have no more ideas.
It is still "please verify your direct-x installation" and "could not find dxdiag.exe" IT IS THERE!!! I RAN THE WHOLE DX TESTS. IT WORKS! Is this game blind???
I think i should skip this.
thanks very much for your help.

I found a fix here: http://www.old-games.ru/forum/showthrea ... 512&page=4
Download the attachment "Venom Win7 Fix.rar". Works fine for me on Win7 64bit.
Furthermore you should think of sticking it to the game entry on 3dsl, in case the fix could get lost otherwise.
