:thanks: so much for the prompt and detailed answer as always! :)

As for unreal engine 5, there is a game I've been meaning to play, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart Of Chernobyl, but I doubt any amount of tweaking is going to allow it to run on my laptop.

Why I say that, recently I tried Forever Skies (was looking for coop games to play with my family), and it uses UE4, and that game ran like absolute sh!t, max framerates (judging from experience, not actual FPS measuring tools) were around or below 10 FPS, I did what I do usually. shadows off (or lowest, can't recall at the moment), all other graphics settings at maximum possible value, screen resolution at 896x504 (it literally would not allow me to launch the game if I set the resolution lower than that, it would say that the current resolution is too low to play the game, and upscaling options such as FSR did not help performance-wise either). Heck, I even turned ALL graphics settings to their lowest value just to see if the game would run better and it STILL ran like sh!t (around 10-12 FPS).

So I wonder if stalker 2, which is still unoptimized and buggy despite recent patches, would even launch. Downloading it is the first problem though, the repacks are 120+ GB in size, plus multiple 5+ GB updates that would probably require 50+ GB free space during install, which, on my 256 GB SSD with 220 GB total usable storage will be next to impossible. :x

On the topic of OS memory management, I apologize to have to bother you with one last question (since online info has been contradictory at best, pcgamingwiki was not that helpful either): Memory compression on or off (was on by default on my laptop, turned it of few months ago). :thanks: in advance

With all that being said, all this has been a very informative journey, I can not believe it has been more than 2 years since this topic was created, it feels like it was just yesterday!

I hope this topic and its contents helps others who experience similar bugs/issues in games, or don't play/get certain games just because they assume their computers/laptops won't be able to run them, mostly based on sh!tty online advice (looking at you steam discussion forums).

Why not try "No Man's Sky" since Forever Skies is just a clone of it ...

No Man's Sky minimum requirements

Memory: 8 GB
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 or Radeon RX 470
CPU: Intel Core i3-3210
File Size: 15 GB
OS: Windows 7/8.1/10 (64-bit versions)

Because I wanted to play a new coop game with my family (played most already), and No Man's Sky's coop mode is not proper coop.

Here are few modern games that can run on your Iris gpu https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5dSL_1df20
and here when you can see Emulation and gaming https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VVxT323BWo (with a Batocera tutorial aka its a USB stick\SD card or HDD or what ever Linux with premade emulators to play on any system from USed Phones to Smart TVs [Yeah!] or smartTV boxes [those sticks you see or boxes] ... Chinese sellers get used Chorme Books , install on it Batocera and reload it with games selling them as Preloaded Consoles )

ignore the mini-pc review ... just see the games and the emulation support ... so like you see you can with batocera make this laptop it into a XBox1\Xbox360\PS1\PS2\PS3\Dreamcast\Etc... gaming system ... Batocera also works with ScummVM so you can get ExoScuMM that has all those games add them and your ready to go ... even has a Media Center PC when you press F1 and Dosbox ... so yeah , don't throw away old laptops , turn them into gaming Consoles with Batocera ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1GshnAYrII

Thank you so much for this :thanks:  , I was eventually going to play some games on emulators because they had no windows ports, but I did not know that those emulators would perform this good on the Iris Xe, and Batocera is definitely on my to-download list now. These are some of the console games I always wanted to play but couldn't:

1) Shadow Of The Colossus (either the PS2 or PS3 version), even if the remake was available on some type of PS4 emulator I wouldn't play it (as stated few posts ago, I prefer the originals over remasters or remakes, especially if they screw with the original artistic vision)
2) Everblue Series
3) Endless Ocean Series
4) Aquanaut's Holiday Series
5) Silent Hills 1
6) God Hand
7) Parasite Eve Series
8 ) Ecco The Dolphin Series
9) Shamu's Deep Sea Adventures
10) Resident Evil Code: Veronica (including X and the PS3 version)
11) Resistance Series
12) Haze
13) Killzone Series
14) Gears Of War Series (from Gears Of War 2 till Gears Of War: Judgment)
15) Koudelka & Shadow Hearts Series
16) The Last Guardian (once the PS4 emulator is more stable and/or accurate)
17) Demon's Souls (original)

There were quite a few more but I can't recall them at the moment.

Based on the list provided (and specs from prior post in this topic):
All up to 6th gen should run trivially with barely any sweat on Win10 (me laptop's weaker than yers, and is thankfully not "infected" with Win11), as long as emulators selected (site linked is a godsend) can have enhancements, and don't eat resources fer total accuracy (in case of Windows; Batocera is an environment IDK): https://emulation.gametechwiki.com
However, some points do need specific notes, such as:
1) Stick to PS3 SotC, as PCSX2 struggles lots more with resources than RPCS3 in trying to deliver fluid gameplay without slowdown (better than chuggy hardware of origin) specifically with this very title
2) 3) As long a performance/accuracy is leveled in configs yer laptop should hardly chug with Dolphin, whether NGC or Wii (IDK NSW)
4) 11) 12) 13) RPCS3 I've never tested (and Vita3K still has ways to go) - cross fingers it won't chug too hard (PS4 is a non-starter; wait a couple years fer emulation wrinkles to iron out, and get a better 'puter then)
5) Where PC ports (with mods like SH2 Enhanced, of course) don't exist, stick to PS2/PSP/NGC/Wii combo (as long as game versions between 6th & 7th gen aren't COMPLETELY different, like Ubisoft was known to do) - and STAY AWAY from remasters/remakes FFS :x
6) 7) Same Dolphin advice fer PCSX2 (PSP by now should be a non-issue)
9) (in emulation stats) NGC best, PS2 second best, Xbox three (srsly, reversing both OG and 360 was difficult so better steer clear, as performance will be unsatisfactory fer yeh methinks - in other news, Sega Saturn is still a bloody nightmare) :!:
10) Patched Kanzenban TRUMPS ALL OTHER VERSIONS OF X, EVER (can't stress this enough): https://cdromance.org/dc-iso/resident-e ... a-x-usa-2/ (misses no content to latter ports + 7th gen ports are mishandled/inferior + Dreamcast is a breeze to emulate) :woot:
Windows is shutting down

From the list i see you like Sea Exploration adventures ... there is also a long Forgotten Cryo adventure about sea treasures called "Treasure Hunter" https://legendsworld.net/adventure/game/5336 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLGHmNgG2SY ...

IF you want to play Resistance on PC, well you can get the FitGIrl repack ... a premade emulator with the game (play those from a SSD since PS3 games where BIG on the BD medium for a reason since they had shader cache on those discs... that in the emu has to be remade for your GPU+CPU but its only done once ...) and when you complete those , just delete the game and you will have a ready made emu for other games

Code: Select all

https://fitgirl-repacks.site/resistance-3/
https://fitgirl-repacks.site/resistance-2/
https://fitgirl-repacks.site/resistance-fall-of-man/
There is also a PSP Resistance game that is needed to get the Resistance 2 game ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hiC8h0fs4A0 , that works fine in the emu ... the problem with those games was , the first part was a PS2 game at first that later was Force Ported to PS3 and you feel it and see it as a 25h long (yeah) PS2 game in 1080p , part 2 is only 10h long and part 3 5h ...yeah , the last one , that looks like HalfLife 2 is only 5h (well not even 5h , since beat it in 3h , 2h of the game are cutscenes on Engine :/)

PCSX2 does not struggle ... you can see on me side how it handles on out of spec machines with fluid 60fps ... and you can even run it on Android Tablets

So here is a personal opinion on some of those games
1) The maker or Ico after its success did not wanted to make a sequel ... so he had this crazy idea why not make games explaining the story that predated ICO ... hence Shadow Of The Colossus is the sequel and prequel to ICO , it explains who you played ... part 3 was The Last Guardian , that explained who that rider and why he was there ...
2-4) each is in its own the same game with a slight difference , from the same creator Airka ... that if you ask anyone , they will they you they are sequels ... the last one "Endless Ocean Luminous" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKXjoA_Gai4 can be Play even on your PC on a Switch Emu (kinda insane is, this studio is also responsible for Tekken and Street Fighter, lulz) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IiU3mXupUEE
7) This 4 part game is a clone of Resident Evil with its own twist ... part 1 was like FF7 , part 2 said f-it lets clone resident evil 2 , part 3 lets be a TPS ... part 4 well ... if you ask me play only part 2 ... and if you want to play a FF like Resident Evil play Koudelka https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LW7Pnyr12_0
8) if you liked this Sega game , why not play the cult Aquaria https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96tIy2W_6eY
10)Play the GameCube version , since 360 version was just the same game but in 1080p ... and PS3 version was censored
12) Avoid ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtXlTkeBuG4 ... or get the game and play in the Ready pre-set emu from the Resistance 3 pack
!3) its more a Tech Demo what a set system could do with a glued jank FPS ... all 5 parts are well , jank in my eyes ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lvdl_mXB3ok

and if you want to play PS4 games use Shadps4 https://github.com/shadps4-emu/shadps4 ...how it works well ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zyHlqwmRlcI 80% visuals ... here is a tutorial to setup it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJrXTCKEgPA with Bloodbourne example , still the emu is in v0.6Beta the Linux Fork in Batocera works 50% faster then in Windows ...

the PS3 version it is (since it is 99% faithful to the original), after finishing though I may play the PS2 one too!

Yup, I intend to play the original PS1 version, not touching the remasters or remakes (did the same for Resident Evil games, played the originals, the remakes, especially 2 & 3, I miss the tank controls and they feel completely different from the original games, I also wanted to say something about the "modern" gamers because of whom these changes happened but that would be too harsh to post here and they probably won't be able to handle it if they'd ever read it, so I'll leave it at this  )

That's part of the reason why I want to play them. Also I really miss tank controls and fixed camera angles in video games, I wish more games had them these days.

10) @annoyment, never heard of the Patched Kanzenban version, much thanks as always :D :)

Yup, found out about shaderglass and crt-guest-advanced (ntsc) through that site, now used the ntsc one (integer scaling, screen res 1280x960 centered/letterboxed, 2-phase, LUT colors=NTSC, aperture grille mask, and mask type 5 (or 6 if you use the reshade version) for replaying all original Resident Evil and Dino Crisis games and I haven't looked back, at this point I wish I had a CRT TV, specifically Sony KV-27S42.
hfric wrote: Fri Jan 31, 2025 9:34 pm From the list i see you like Sea Exploration adventures
Yup, 3 types of games I love the most, Dinosaur games, games taking place in the sea/ocean and preferably include horrifying terror inducing lovecraftian gigantic sea creatures/monsters and space games.

I have the following ocean/sea games (some finished, some in progress or just started, some untouched):

Abzû (finished)
Beyond Blue (finished)
Death In The Water Series (finished, second game scared the absolute crap out of me, Subnautica was not as scary as this one)
DREDGE + DLC's (finished)
Pronty (finished)
Shark!: Hunting The Great White (finished, this one felt like a spiritual predecessor to Death In The Water)
Silt (finished)
Aquamarine Explorer's Edition (installed but haven't played yet)
Aquaria (installed but haven't played yet)
Aquatico + DLC (installed but haven't played yet)
Dave The Diver + DLC (LOVED this, finished, can't wait for the Jungle DLC)
Deep Diving Simulator (untouched)
Deep Sea Tycoon Series (did not even download yet)
Depth Hunter Series (finished)
Down In Bermuda (untouched)
Earth Atlantis (untouched)
Sunless Sea + DLC (untouched)
Finding Nemo: Nemo's Underwater World Of Fun (untouched)
Finding Nemo (2003 game, untouched)
Flotsam (untouched)
In Other Waters (installed but haven't played yet)
Jaws Unleashed (in progress)
Maneater + DLC (in progress)
SAMUDRA (in progress)
Shark Tale (untouched)
SOMA (installed but haven't played yet)
Song Of The Deep (in progress)
Surviving The Abyss (installed but haven't played yet)
The Aquatic Adventure Of The Last Human (installed but haven't played yet)
Under The Waves (installed but haven't played yet)
Verne: The Shape Of Fantasy (in progress)
Barotrauma (will play this with family)
Subnautica Series (finished the first one and loved it, Below Zero for some reason just doesn't have the same impact and didn't click, and no matter how many times I start it, I always stop/lose interest after playing 1/4 (or 1/6) of the game. Also, will play these in coop when Nitrox and BZ coop's bugs and sync issues are ironed out)

Yeah I've played similar games to that, Destination: Treasure Island, Return To Mysterious Island Series & Voyage: Inspired By Jules Verne

Also, thanks for the new game suggestions, updated my previous games list post! :)
