I'm using CD/DVD, but probably would consider porting it all to HDD. The notion of CD Rot kinda terrifies me, even though I keep my media nicely stored away in a dark and dry environment.
Then also I could add the argument of HDD's nowadays takes far less room than storing it all on discs, but I'd probably end up keeping the CDs anyway, just in case.

I have 3305 mediums now, a mix of CDs and DVDs. If I were to take an average size of 2GB per disc (should account for the CD:DVD ratio I have), that would be a collection size of 6610GB, roughly 7TB. A 1TB SATA drive is about 140 euros, making my transition to SATA drives a 980 euros expense.Scaryfun wrote:I use dvds now. I have way too much stuff to put on multiple hard-drives.
When I have cash for it, I'd probably consider buying them to ultimately replace my collection. After all, it's easier to pick one out of 7 HDDs to get the files I want than to get one out of 3305 discs.

Oh and mind you, as I prolly won't need all the data at the ready, hotswapping one for the other would be possible using SATA.

Still, it's too much work to put all the discs onto the HDDs. Especially if I would also want to sift through the collection and organize it, making sure I avoid having dupes in it.

when i buy a new game
the first thing i do is making an ISO IMAGE with MAGIC ISO
and then put the cd back in case and put the case where its safe......
im doing this cause that way i can mount the file via DT and the install process is faster cause it loads directly from the HD
and then i try if the game is working without any crack using the image mounted via DT and setting EMU all ON
this works great especially with older titles but the newer ones cant be tricked that easy
oh and i write the serial in a txt file

weird, then you basically copy the cd to the HDD first, then mount the image to copy from HD to HD again using the installer. And this entire process is faster than just using the installer from the CD to copy the files to the HDD?hurenBock wrote:when i buy a new game

no no
i put the DVD in drive then i make an ISO IMAGE with MAGICISO
after that i mount that IMAGE with DT and then i install.......
sure its not much faster maybe just 1-2 minutes but after all thats not the main reason why i do it this way
i mainly do it cause i dont want that my CDs get raped
i like to store the images on my HD and the CDs somewhere else
where they are safe
and i mean when you have the ORIGINAL serial who cares if you install from IMAGE on the HD or from CD that you have to search first
