PERFORMANCE BOOST using XP instead of VISTA ???
hi !
im thinking about deleteing win VISTA and installing XP again the last time
cause i heard that games run faster under XP cause it doesnt need that much power like VISTA needs...
so what would you do ? i mean on the other side i want to stay with VISTA
but it sucks that i cant play my old favorite games like VIETCONG or BLOOD etc etc...
but i dont want to run a dual OS system.....
i mean will XP be enough for the future ? i mean this is senseless when i reinstall and use XP again now
when all the games that get released the next months years all need VISTA and dont run under XP.....dont want to make myself all that stress just because of 3-4 games........
what would you do ?
running VISTA or XP PRO ?

Sp3 is coming for xp so this OS is far from dead. No point of using Vista.
Personally I use both
I have XP on my desktop in my computer room and Vista on my laptop. If something wont run on my laptop I use my desktop. Works for me.
The only use for Vista would be, if you have a brand new high end computer and want to play DirectX 10 games like Farecry 2 on the highest graphic level.
Even so the games with DirectX 10 extensions are fery few and don't look that much different, when you play them with DirectX 9 and XP - judging from the Screenshots.
For everything else - and even performance with these new games - XP is far superior.
Also Vista comes with screwed security issues (working against and not for the user, as it should be) and DRM, which is No-No for me.
Stick with XP for now! People are already translating DirectX10 for Wine (Linux), so this could be an option in the future.

I'm getting myself one, and I'll only (if at all) be installing Vista to check out some DirectX 10 features and to make use of all of my RAM. For all else, I'd consider Vista more of a downgrade of XP, so I'll be sticking with Windows XP as long as I can.mxjgr wrote:The only use for Vista would be, if you have a brand new high end computer and want to play DirectX 10 games like Farecry 2 on the highest graphic level.

I'm installing Windows XP on it for sure though, as my main OS.

i got the SP 1 for VISTA today installation was a little bit long 30-45 minutes.......
but well its worth it my system is faster now especially copying is real fast now
i want to use XP again too one fact why is that SP 3 is coming but yesterday i tried to make my C parition smaller and making the E DRIVE for my GAMES bigger
but as i wanted to make the drive bigger and C smaller i clicked proceed and the PC rebooted......then the DRIVE did something but then somthing stand there like
"unalbe to write to SECTOR 1 drive C:"
somehow the C DRIVE is protected from changing space or whatever this sux i guess i cant even FORMAT C DRIVE and install XP again

Sure you can
Sure you can but you have to use third party partitioning software like Partition magic.

There's a leaked beta version of SP3 that has been floating around the internet since last year, a final version still hasn't been released. There wasn't even going to be a SP3 at all until businesses still using XP complained very loudly about Microsoft throwing XP under the bus, and no longer supporting it.

VISTA is just a pretty, flashy resource hog at this point. Computers get more RAM and more processing power, Microsoft turns around and finds a way to waste it making things look nice, but really running no better. XP was like that when it first came out. I stuck with 98 for a long time before switching over. On the whole, XP was more stable than 98, we'll have to wait and see about VISTA.
