Ported PC Games

Post by xariskop »

What exactly means when we say this game is ported to pc from another consol? Like converted or something?
As far as i know ported games are :
1. Toshinden 1
2. House of the dead 1,2 maby 3?
3. Silent hill 1
4. Crazy Taxi (?)
5. Marathon 2

Do you know other ports?

It means that they were designed to be played and run on a game console, like Xbox, Playstation, etc. They usually are very flashy looking, but kind of boring to play, as opposed to games designed for the PC. Tons of games have been, and still are being ported, because of the popularity of gaming consoles. For example compair FEAR 2, with the original game FEAR. FEAR 2 was designed for the gaming consoles, it looks real good, but it's play is kind of shallow. The same thing goes for Farcry 2, and the original Farcry.

Yes, that's it. Usually console ports are blamed because of bad controls scheme and weak visuals.

Couple of corrections. First Silent Hill wasn't ported to PC, what is widely available on the net - is a PlayStation game with an emulator, compiled by fans. Marathon was originally a Mac game, and to my knowledge it is not a console, although Apple released one in mid 90s.

You can continue this list forever, because today most of the action games are multiplatform. But if you insist, here some famous examples:
Resident Evil series
Metal Gear Solid
Red Faction 2 (ew)
Need for Speed (it was a 3DO game originally)
Final Fantasy
Halo

That Sucks, anyway i have compared resident evil, silent hill & toshinden.
I can say that they look and feel the same.
As for modern games like fear and farcry, unfortunately i don't use consoles anymore - i have a ps2 somewhere - so i can't make comparisons, but i have played both of them to my pc and i found them
ok.
As for silent hill, the version i've got has a setup, autorun etc like most games. Didn't find an emulator anywhere. Also i've installed and played the game, and looks better than the version for psx emulator - i've got that also- Are you sure it was never ported?
