This is a great sidescrolling action fighting adventure doujin game based on the MMORPG Ragnarok Online (both an homage and a spoof), but can easily be played and enjoyed by people who have never played the MMO. In 2014, nks ripped the game with all three expansions together with Nyxojaele's translation patch plus a widescreen patch. The game impressed Gravity Corporation so much that it has been given an official release outside of Japan. Released as Ragnarok Battle, the game has been distributed in Indonesia, Taiwan, Thailand and a deluxe package in Korea which comes with its own gamepad. Level Up! Games also released an English version of RBO available in the Philippines. However, this release is based only on the initial version of RBO, which does not include the expansions released by French-Bread. Though primarily a beat 'em up game, RBO also contains some RPG elements. You take control of one of 14 different adventurers (seven classes - Swordsman, Archer, Acolyte, Magician, Merchant, Thief and Novice - with a male and a female variant of each class) and you go and...beat up monsters. The player creates a character from one of six basic classes and one unlockable class, allocate points to the character's stats and skills, and then enter one of the stages. Up to 3 people can play at once, using the keyboard, joysticks or gamepads. |
