Math Invaders Simon & Schuster Interactive / Macmillan Digital Publishing 1997

This educational game includes 3-D game play, word problems, and computations. It's an arcade-style game with some math problems between the action scenes. As the plot goes, kids have to fight to regain control of a starship. They roam 3-D mazes and essentially zap anything that moves. When kids try to obtain new weapons or enter certain rooms, the program halts the action, and presents a word problem that blocks their way. The problems will challenge young minds from fourth-graders to seventh-graders; you can set the difficulty level within that range. A useful onscreen calculator helps kids perform the math as they solve the problems. Skills learned: Basic Algebra, Basic Geometry, Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, Fractions, Percentages, Order of Operation, Decimals, Word Problems. Features: amazing real-time 3D environment, great selection of weapons with incredible accuracy, hours of re-play ability.
